Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Surely with Youtube/MXtube your data usage must be a little higher than just 40MB. I reckon I could get through about 500MB a month.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Sorry, I don't quite get it...

Does the "Easy Liberty Uno" deal of Swisscom-Switzerland includes a 24-months contract?

Can I purchase an Iphone 3G in 519/619 CHF without a contract?

Thanks

If you have an EU passport: yes you can, but you have to register your SIM-card and the phone's locked. The unlocked onse are sold at 899 and 1199.- without a contract. You'll find all of this in the FAQ, though - please do read the first message in this thread.

One week's up and i went through about 80mb so far - and I constantly used the phone - like 5 hours a day. With normal use, 250mb should be enough for most people.
I would have used more if I didn't have WiFi at home, though.

I read the FAQ - just couldn't figure out the answer from it. Guess I'm little dumb

Anyway, what does it mean to "register your SIM-card"? Does it mean to open up a new account at Swisscom? If so, after I purchase an Iphone and open up this new account, can I cancel it with no further payments?
(To tell you the truth, I just want the Iphone, locked or not, without an account or contract at Swisscom).

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

you would have to fulfil the payments for the duration of the contract. So 12 x or 24 x the monthly charge.

Cheaper to buy unlocked.

"Registering your SIM-card" means you give Swisscom all of your personal information (which they'll check in-store) and they will activate your SIM-card for that phone in-store. The phone will only work with that SIM-card once the phones has been activated. You can get it activated to another Swisscom SIM-card if you want. You will have to unlock the phone in order to use it with another SIM - unlocking is not possible at this time.

Also, if you sign a contract (which they won't let you do if you don't live in Switzerland and have a good credit score) you'll naturally have to pay up for the whole duration (which is 24 months in case of Swisscom).

Well, unlocking will be possible at some point, so that's not the problem, and neither is my personal information because I have a Swiss citizenship.

There are servel contradiction issues here I can't quite understand.
I'm talking about the prepaid deal "NATEL easy liberty uno", which does not include a monthly charge, as you can see here ("Subscription price per month: 0 CHF").

Moreover, the "NATEL easy liberty uno" deal does not include a 24 months contract, does it??
if it doesn't, than what does happen when you cancel the account of your brand new SIM card after your Iphone is activated?

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Urip - you wrote "If so, after I purchase an Iphone and open up this new account, can I cancel it with no further payments"

so I assumed you were talking about a subscription here. What "further payments" are you expecting if you buy a prepaid package? Now it's me who is confused.

Nope, the prepaid package doesn't come with monthly charges. However, the SIM will still be locked to the phone. You can't "cancel" a prepaid package because you don't have anything to cancel.

Sorry about the confusion. One last question:
As I understand from your explanation, when I buy the Iphone 3G with the prepaid package, I get a new SIM card, which with I can use the Iphone and make calls by Swisscom (right?), but I don't want this SIM card activated. Can I deactivate it afterwards? (So it won't be possible to make calls by that SIM)

I don't believe you can - but you can destroy it or throw it away.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

dawiz, thank you very much for your patient, you've been very helpfull, I really appreciate it.

But you know, something interesting:
If you go here, than press the "For residential customers" link below, you can see the packages table, and below that it's written that "Excluding SIM card CHF -40".
How can the SIM card be excluded?
I don't think it applies to existing Swisscom customers because a friend of mine wrote to swisscom and they wrote him:
"The prices for existing customers are a bit more than for new customers. So far we don’t know the exact prices."

that just means that you have to pay CHF 40 for the prepaid SIM-card - no matter whether you use it or not. Very stupid, but it's true

Why did they even bother with the 8gb ones? To be able to upsell?

The answer is probably the same as to the question: "Why didn't they predict demand correctly?"

...
Cause they are idiots :-)

I accept the fact that there's a limit to how many they can manufacture in a limited time, but surely they could have foreseen the 8gb's lack of popularity from the sales of the 2G iPhone.

Last time I checked (and that might have been too long ago) there were no iPhone shortages in the States...
