Hope so - I collected the phone from the post office this morning, so don't know if the SIM might be waiting for me at home - I'd already left before the post arrived.

By the way - did you have to sign for your SIM pack, or will they just leave it in the letter box? I'm never at home when the post arrives, so if I have to sign for it, it'll mean another trip to the PO tomorrow...
we had to sign for the sim pack yes - the iPhones were sealed in plastic in the box so i can't see how they can put the sim cards in with the phones

I didn't expect the SIM to be in the sealed iPhone box itself obviously, but I had hoped (clearly naively) that it would be in the same cardboard box that the whole delivery was sent in.

Oh well, another trip to the PO it is then (if it ever arrives). It's been such a pain in the backside getting hold of this phone, I really can't work up any enthusiasm for it any more.

Hang in there, it will all be worth it in the end. Besides, the alternative is not having an iPhone.

Not naïve at all. My iphone box was inside a bigger cardboard box. Orange Center (sic) Lausanne told me that the SIM should have been included in the cardboard box, that it was a mistake on Orange's part and that several people had been affected. So... I am expecting a separate envelope when I get home tonight

Lots of my colleagues want to play with my brick, there's a good 'warts and all' review of it here.

Looks like I'm also one of those affected...hopefully the same envelope will be waiting....

That Appleinsider review is one of the best I have come across (Ars Technica also go into similar levels of detail for those interested).

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

if you have waited this long, whats another few days or a week.

take a chill pill, and just try to arrange delivery of the sim. it isnt really apples fault.

You are of course absolutely right, however it is more frustrating to be in possession of the device and not be able to use than it is to not have it at all

I'm certainly not blaming Apple for this. Orange on the other hand...

I've just opened the box I got this morning to check as well, and surprise surprise, no SIM.
Argh, that sucks :-( You could just head over to the closest Orange shop and get a SIM card there. As you already have the phone, that shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck,

peter

yeah, maybe they can give you one for free since it is their mistake, and you can just take in the posted one to them at a later date?

Nope, read me trying that very same thing at lunctime today. "We're not the internet here, you know" as he types an email to the completely and totally separate orange.ch e-shop

My patience is still holding up, there's far more important things going on, despite all these blumin' postings

I'm going to wait and see if there's anything in the postbox this evening, then we'll see.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use it without a SIM until then? In other words use the web and iPod capability and so on without a SIM, and then just get the phone functionality when the SIM arrives?

I know I'm probably hoping in vain, but you never know

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

It's perfectly usable without unlocking the SIM, i.e. entering the pin. But I would guess you have to have inserted a SIM to get that far.

I think it won't get activated without inserting a valid SIM-card :-(

I got a SIM-card for a Blackberry once at the shop after they had failed to send me one for my e-shop order. But I guess they're being extra-anal about the iPhone :-(

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

well, while the update of my own iPhone worked well, it just temporarily bricked my wife's. Gladly she had done a backup before and gladly I knew how to get the phone out of DFU mode so she could do a full restore and get the data back on there :-( (this was on Swisscom, btw.)

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Just had a message from home that one of the Post's ubiquitous yellow tickets is sitting in our letter box, so it looks like the SIM is at the PO at least.

The thing will have to be a pretty paperweight until then...

According to this http://www.macprime.ch/news/article/...nd-das-iphone/ , the 2.0.1 update has a bug that will prevent it from correctly installing the network settings for Orange-locked iPhones. This will lead to the iPhone getting partially bricked (the phone part doesn't work anymore) after the upgrade!

Only Orange Switzerland and a few foreign providers seem to be hit by this.
Updated it on orange with no problems, so far.

Whereas you seemed to say your wife on Swisscom had a problem ?
