another prob actually is, that on my keyboard there is no "umlaut". i always have to type "ue", "ae" etc. but the auto-correction comes up with "ü".
Wrong again with such immediate criticisms without research.. tut tut.

simply press and hold a or e for example and you are presented with a list of special characters.

et voila!

A little research before such posts might go a long way.

unfortunately i cant get any mp3s on my phone! plugged to my mac, installed itunes 7.7, installed iphone sw-update...but drag n drop or any import of music was/is impossible!!
Probably a stupid question, but you mention drag and drop and importing - have you actually clicked Sync? I know, I know, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Also, have you checked / ticked any playlists to be synced, or are you syncing your whole library?

Firmware version 2.0.2 has just been released (update using iTunes), reports of improved 3G reception and menu speed have been mixed

P.S. For those of us on jailbroken versions of 2.0.x, we'll need to wait for the next installment of pwnage before updating
Have you found a reason to run a jailbroken iPhone yet?

I was actually happy to de-pwn mine since I didn't really use any of the apps available from Cydia.

In which case why not just create a playlist with the stuff you want to listen to and sync that?

For example I have a Smart Playlist set up simply called iPhone which only has stuff I loaded in iTunes in the last 2 months up to a maximum of 4 GB, and in the iPhone settings I just have that ticked and nothing else. Therefore I control how much space my music takes up on my phone, and only get the tunes I want.

I have to agree with krlock3 - a lot of the stuff you want to do can easily be done, you just need to slow down and find out how to do it.

Just creat a playlist with the stuff you DO want. When the iphone is connected to your computer there are a list of tabs which control what is and isnt synced. Just select the playlist(s) you want, then you can listen to the selected tunes that you desire.

ok, maybe that is the way, but completely inconvenient! thats not apple functionality, thats windoof 98 for me. plug n play i am used to with apple gadgets. its that i have 10 albums i listen to recently (and more) of course with album cover and everything in my itunes. i wanted to import it simply like i did before on the touch. but ok, ill do it like you advised me. maybe it is because the phone needs to be plugged to my itunes in some way, that its all connected n stuff and then it goes like before.

Sorry, I'm lost, you say your phone isn't plugged into iTunes? Sounds like you maybe need someone there in person who can go through this with you.

haha, yes, i have to admit that you are confusing me too flow.

Ultimately, if the amount of music on your iphone is 9gb and the iphone you have is 8gb, then of course you need to be selective. It isnt yet 2029, when skynet goes online and chooses your music playlists directly for you by wirelessly interfacing with your neural networks (before destroying the world with sentient robots).

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

I have finally managed to join the bandwagon of iPhone Owners
Walked into the Orange showroom in Oerlikon
Filled the forms
and presto walked out in 10 minutes as an owner of an iPhone.

The black model is out of stock is unavailable but the white model is readily avaialble

The only issue is that I have to wait 3 weeks for the sim card to be activated because I chose to retain my old number

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

ok... the phone is plugged/connected with itunes (btw: i can see it as a device in itunes), itunes is on, the synch function comes up n puts all the stuff i dont want on to my phone. i dont want that. i want that the phone appears as a "drive" left in the itunes menu and i pick the stuff i want to be on my phone. not non-selective thrashing the Gb space up. thats all and this did not go yesterday.
next is, i cant watch youtube vids on my phone. why is that?

man, i am a non-techie consumer, ok? i have no single clue about software, apps, plug ins and bull****. thats what i hated about windows and now its the same **** with my phone. all this praise and im so massively disappointed... that i have to jailbreak an modify stuff...its crap. maybe the whole thing again (like happened many times) is simply to simple for me to get it...

what i meant with plgging my phone is, that maybe my iphone is a new device and itunes (after updating my software on my phone n pc) needs to connect inside, some magic "welcome" of a new gadget to my desktop. because i did not shut down either my mac pc nor the phone, because thats what im not used to...

I run a jailbroken iPhone 2G 2.0.1. I have to admit that there is no "reason" to do so apart from a little application that allows you to switch EDGE on/off and for Winterboard that allows you tu customised your phone:backgrounds, icons, battery icon, etc...

BTW - Any recommended applications? I'm loving the completely useless iPint

Cheers,

itnas
