itunes is on, the synch function comes up n puts all the stuff i dont want on to my phone. i dont want that. i want that the phone appears as a "drive" left in the itunes menu and i pick the stuff i want to be on my phone. not non-selective thrashing the Gb space up.
Just copy what you want into a playlist called "iPhone" or something and then sync only this playlist. YOu can still browse all the songs by artist etc within the ipod function.

Don't be so lazy!

ok... the phone is plugged/connected with itunes (btw: i can see it as a device in itunes), itunes is on, the synch function comes up n puts all the stuff i dont want on to my phone. i dont want that. i want that the phone appears as a "drive" left in the itunes menu and i pick the stuff i want to be on my phone. not non-selective thrashing the Gb space up. thats all and this did not go yesterday.
next is, i cant watch youtube vids on my phone. why is that?

man, i am a non-techie consumer, ok? i have no single clue about software, apps, plug ins and bull****. thats what i hated about windows and now its the same **** with my phone. all this praise and im so massively disappointed... that i have to jailbreak an modify stuff...its crap. maybe the whole thing again (like happened many times) is simply to simple for me to get it...

what i meant with plgging my phone is, that maybe my iphone is a new device and itunes (after updating my software on my phone n pc) needs to connect inside, some magic "welcome" of a new gadget to my desktop. because i did not shut down either my mac pc nor the phone, because thats what im not used to...
I think you may need to return your iPhone and claim your money back by telling them there is a clear fault...with the user

I run a jailbroken iPhone 2G 2.0.1. I have to admit that there is no "reason" to do so apart from a little application that allows you to switch EDGE on/off and for Winterboard that allows you tu customised your phone:backgrounds, icons, battery icon, etc...

BTW - Any recommended applications? I'm loving the completely useless iPint

The only issue is that I have to wait 3 weeks for the sim card to be activated because I chose to retain my old number
You get a temporary number in the meantime. I diverted my regular number to my temporary number while waiting. For some reason they can say with accuracy when the number port will happen (mine will be at 15.45 on Thursday!). Number porting takes 2 hours in the UK, maybe we'll catch up here one day.

And Flow, chilll out! Spend more time learning how to use what you've got rather than typing all your short-term problems on here. It's easy to do what you want to do, just plug the phone in and all will become clear. Instead of wasting time on all these posts, you could have read the manual (pdf) by now . That said, please do post the more difficult questions, we all learn from others...

and i would like to see you with a phone and no music!hahahaha!
i see now that many people do like things about it which are absolutely of no importance to me. but in general im ok with it. usabilty is ace, nice design, interface, connectivity to inet etc. is the best you can get.

the rest some ipod knights will sort for me, i hope.

Mxtube and Google off-line maps more than justify the jailbreaking of the iPhone and it has to be said that the library of apps, fixes, themes etc. on Cydia is growing by the day.

I'm pretty new to iphones my self (1 week to be exact) but I can see the massive potential from homebrew authors who don't necesserily want to go through the rigmarole of the apps store.. or whose apps might not be endorsable by Apple e.g. using your iPhone as a tethered 3G modem.

And with regards to the process voiding your warranty, all you need to do is restore back to a non-jailbroken version and all traces will be erased. Most of the risks in the jailbreaking process occur at the point of the jailbreak.. once done there is no evidence that I'm aware of to suggest the phone is any more or less stable than the original OS.

Seconded. You could also have a look at the Apple Support pages for iPhone - here - they cover everything you need to know.

But whats the deal with bricking? I take it that it's too late to restore by that point, and how can you brick the phone?

Many of the old hands on Hackint0sh et al claim that you have to be a complete idiot to brick your iPhone... essentially switching off your PC mid-jailbreak when your mum calls you down for your tea.

I had a mini-heart stopping moment when I tried to jail break from recovery mode as opposed to DFU mode. I thought I had bricked my iphone because it wasn't turning on. Did a bit more reading around, found out my error and successfuly restored it.

Since the iPhone has this "BIOS-level" DFU mode that sits independent of the OS, I think its quite hard to truly kill an iPhone.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

To change language, it seems fairly intuitive to look at settings, general, international.

The manual and apple support pages are your friends.

I cannot imagine many people have had such problems putting music onto their phone.

Dont worry flow, i can come over tonight after swimming and sort it all out for you, we can sit you in the corner and give you a lollipop while you wait....

there should be no discernible difference in setting up your ipod touch versus setting up your iphone.

none at all.

I may give it a shot one bored weekend.

Would be worth it for wikipedia and google maps downloaded onto the phone.
