| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | To be honest, I haven't read every posting on this thread, as it seems too long and pretty dull. The iphone seems unworthy of such adoration. Its pretty good, a bit quirky on some basic phone functions that they really should have got right, but it functions ok as a small wireless web browser.
I will replace it without hesitation or regret as soon as I can get a similar browsing device with a larger screen from any quality manufacturer.
dave | | | | | To be fair, most posts on here seem to be questions/answers or criticisms rather than adoration.
However the amount of attention it's getting on this site feels to me to be in proportion to the amount most western media seem to be giving the device.
Of course whether or not that is warranted is another question altogether. In my view as the whole hoopla is driven by advertising agencies and multi-million dollar budgets, the link between a product's real worth and the amount of media attention it gets is almost non-existent.

When answering calls the sound comes through the earpieces but you have to talk through the normal microphone, which isn't too much of a struggle.. and I don't make many calls really. Thanks for the tip though.

Maybe 6/10 for an audiophile used to chf400 shures.
Actually 12/10 compared to apple in box offering.
Clicker harder to use and not as nicely designed though as I mentioned.

dave | | | | | I feel the same, but with two points:
- Apple are releasing bug fixes quite quickly, it's just a shame we don't know what they are fixing
- By the time a comparable browsing device comes out I will already be locked in with apps and docks and various other accessories.

I'm starting to lose the plot now
Is anyone else having the same problem? Or**ge.ch won't allow me international roaming or international data roaming until after the 3rd monthly payment. No amount of evidence of my excellent credit history, job security, proof of 6 months residence in CH, offer of prepayment or anything else will satisfy them. Anyone manage to get round this?
This is the last straw. Swisscom is beckoning.

I'm also on Optima 100 and I made no special requests for roaming.

I was thinking as a back-up. I travel a fair bit and can see me running low while on the road and unable to plug in for power.
I've used emergency battery packs in the past with other phones, though bought disposable ones. I had a friend who used a solar panel gizmo, that worked OK too...

1. It takes 12 hours of direct sunlight to charge the battery
2. the battery is too small - it only powers / charges the iPhone for about 30 minutes and is incapable of delivering a full charge.
I used it on our trip to Finland this summer. I wasn't too impressed with it. Still looking for a SMALL but powerful solution to give the iPhone some extra-juice on the go. The Kensington battery pack looks promising to me but it's not available in Switzerland yet.

There are plenty of suppliers of USB battery packs which can be used along with your regular USB cable. Something like this would do the job and would provide about 5 full charges on the go.

Maybe a silly question, or already answered...
Do you still have the "enable disk use" option for the iPhone, same as the iPod.
And can you still use Senuti, or a similar app to grab music backwards?

| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ And new security flaw if you leave your phone lying around for anyone to peruse, or if it's pinched by a malicious ID thief. Easily negated though.

Picked up my iphone from orange this week and got 100sfr off the price for collecting on a wednesday and giving them a crappy old phone. It maybe mentioned somewhere in the thread but isn't in the initial first page and they don't seem to readily advise people so thought it's worth a mention. The guy almost whispered it when i initially reserved and then i had to request the additional 50 on paying, but got it in the end.
Now all I've got to o is spend time with the little beasty.
