Good phone.
Emails are easy. Typing is good but not great. I've heard people say BlackBerry typing is easier, but I love my iPhone.

thanks | | | | | in short: good for leisure use, bad for business use. I think it's safe to say that the iPhone's an excellent consumer device. It does multimedia very well, it's excellent for mobile gaming, it has a decent web browser and it has a beautiful glass screen.
For business use, it has some issues:
- lacks tethering
- lacks bluetooth data transfers
- lacks bluetooth business card transfers
- has flaky push e-mail
- has shortish battery-life (other phones aren't much better, though, with the exception of the Blackberry)
- security isn't very far developed
- it's not as stable as the blackberry platform
also, Apple is very anal about this product. Doesn't allow for applications to run in the background (usable instant messaging, anyone?), doesn't allow for third party applications to make use of all of the phone's hardware features, doesn't allow for turn-by-turn navigation at this time etc.

I am SO sorry to ask this, as I'm SURE it has been answered but I'm hoping one of you will take pity upon me and answer this:
My husband and I are currently in the USA. We're moving to Switzerland in a few months. We both have an iPhone 3G bought and set-up here in America. When we move will we be able to use them in Switzerland with a new carrier? They're not "unlocked" as we bought them directly from Apple.
Thanks so much in advance for your help.
Cheers,
Rebecca

| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ | Quote: | | | | | There is talk (here and here, for instance) of the odd iphone 3G having been jailbroken, but currently there is no option for the masses. If you buy a 3G then expect to be tied to your service provider for a while longer... | | | | | It can be done and has been done ..... I bought an IPhone 3G 3 weeks ago in Kuala Lumpur , completely Jailbroken and unlocked , even on the latest software version 2.1 ( 5F136 ) . They had a whole bunch of them just in from the US and the guy told me that they had just unlocked/jailbroken 200 units for sale . They expect a whole bunch more ... They are not moving that quickly here since the price is rather steep for a phone per se ( 8 GB version about CHF 900 and CHF 1200 for 16GB ) but I got a pretty good deal when I traded in my 2G version that i bought on Ricardo ......

| | Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ
I've read all 44 pages --- thanx everyone - most interesting read, and only took 2.5hrs.
I got my 3G in the first week they were available in CH (yeah, one of the lucky ones) and as this is my first ever experience of Apple, I am most impressed. I like everything (other than the battery life, but I've learned to live with that). I particularly like the speed that Safari has. I only have two points/questions and I am pretty convinced they have not been covered yet in all these 44 pages ...
1. Every so often my 3G will 'freeze' on me and I can't get it to 'un-freeze' apart from pushing all the buttons furiously and then I get a nice black screen with a silver apple logo. After a few minutes this disappears and the devise 'un-freezes'. Is this called a hard reset and does anybody know why this ('freeze') is happening?
2. My iTunes account is Swiss and does not (yet) host the video and TV stores. Does anybody know if iTunes CH will allow access at any time?
Thanx.

Normally, you can just hold down the power button for a few seconds, but sometimes you need to give it a hard reset, you do this by holding down the power button and the home button for a few seconds, ignoring the normal slide to power off option till the thing turns itself off.

What users want is: - Clip and paste
- Landscape Keyboard avail in all apps
- Turn-by-turn navigation
- Ability to cache maps to memory (without a 3G connection, maps is useless)
- Opening up of the Bluetooth stack
Personally I'm not going to bother with 2.2.
