They are sadly stereotyping iPhone users as the "more money than sense who will buy anything regardless" crowd.
Almost . I was about to click "buy" for the Navigon DAC package, but then I realised I don't have a car . That brief moment of clarity saved me a hundred chufs.

That said, I believe that you're better off buying a dedicated unit for a car anyway. By all accounts it seems that the iPhone navigation software is not as responive as the real thing, and that it sucks battery like there's no tomorrow.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Just to let anyone know who has an iPhone from the UK that was unlocked by jailbreak methods.

O2 will be offering unlocks for all out of contract iPhones after the 10th November.

For PAYG I'm assuming it will be 12 month but I've emailed to confirm this. I don't see why it should be 12 months since PAYG customers did pay up from for the phone even though it is subsidised....I never asked for a subsidy...

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Hi. I have a question. When I tried to buy an iphone on the orange website, it asks for ID number. Is it the number on the right corner of my permit? As in 'CHEBA*******'? 'Cause it kept saying 'Please enter the ID number in the right format'.

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Follow up - I was wondering how everyone is getting on with their Iphones and operators and especially the phone bills? I want to get an Iphone friday but to be honest I just dont understand... gb mb all of it. At the moment I have a simple phone but now would like to get the iphone. I sms alot, call UK and want to surf the net a few times a week without it costing a fortune... I dont know where to start really looking for the right price for me etc. etc. I guess you can download skype and use that for the UK calls?. For the internet it is mainly for research and checking out emails. Thanks if you can help. I did try reading all the threads but then was more confused than the beginning. Cheers. Liz

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Hi All

not sure if anyone is experiencing this but seems it is a widely spread issue with the iPhone. My wife's 3g with latest software is unable to connect to any WiFi network. That inculdes the home one as well as public. Apple has not offered a fix and many who visited the Apple stores had the units replaced under warranty. In many cases a faulty antenna was the cause. I'm planning a visit this week. Is the warranty 1 year for iPhone here in CH btw?

The standard warranty only applies in the country of purchase. Apple are usually very good at changing the phone without many questions asked. But if you bought the phone abroad then you can only get it serviced here if you get the apple care plus warranty for the iPhone.

They will most likely give you a local iPhone then. So if you bought an unlocked one from Italy or Belgium you may get a locked one from here

My 1st 3g iPhone had a bad antenna, but it affected phone calls and data rather than wi-fi. Wi-fi was about the only thing that worked before the good folks at the Apple Store swapped it out without any hassle. The new one's working fine.

I can second chiguy. 1 year warranty holds, and is extendeable for 109CHF for another year.

hmmm, maybe one can downgrade from 5.11.07 to 04.26.08 but using this guide here but im not sure about the 5.08 bootloader part at the end, i.e. if her phone had this from the factory.

http://www.redmondpie.com/downgrade-...7-to-04.26.08/

i guess that rather than run the risk of bricking her phone, i had better wait for the devteam to produce what i am after, and hope that this doesnt take too long.
You may be in luck krlock3, GEOHOT has just announced an imminent unlock for 5.11.07.

Quote:
An Information Campaign

I have an unlock for 05.11.07. I will be releasing on 11/04/09, for $0.00

First off, Jody Sanders, I am declining your $10,000. Why? Because you, and the rest of the iPhone unlock sites out there are scum. You make money selling freeware; that's not cool, and I am in no way going to legitimize it.
Seriously, the people who really lose here are the customers. These sites are full of blatant lies, claiming to have unlocks for 05.11.07 People buy them, and are told the unlock is in development, and the release date is unknown. Imagine you bought a cup of coffee and were told it's in development? Recently, many of these sites sent out e-mails saying they made major breakthroughs and the unlock will be ready 11/04/09. Coincidence that that's the release date of blacksn0w?
I'm not going to post all these scam sites here, as I don't want to give them the pagerank boost. Rather I'll give you a whitelist, two people make unlocks, me and the dev team. Every iPhone unlock site you see out there is selling our stuff, repackaged in some form or another. Same goes for jailbreaks, although ih8sn0w and chronicdev are legit. Notice what all the legit ones have in common? They are free.
Now despite rumors of the ferocity of my legal team, they actually are pretty poor lawyers. And the scum who run these websites are the type who get off on legal battles. So we have to fight them in another way, and I'm asking for everyones help on this. Our weapon is information. Get the truth out, that all iPhone unlocks and jailbreaks are free, and if you are buying something, you aren't getting anything a simple google search couldn't get you, and are probably funding someones crack habit.
This is the first time I have tried to make something simple for the end users, and it enrages me to see people selling it. Let's shut all these *******s down, and tell the iPhone owning world all they need is at blackra1n.com, including blacksn0w instructions on it's release date, 11/04/09(yes, will support hacktivation). You do your part, and I'll do mine making things as simple, reliable, and straightforward as possible.

You have 4 days.

If you've already done this then sorry, otherwise go to iTunes with your iPhone plugged in...to summary and on Version section click RESTORE

when you brought it to the store do they ask for receipt or accessories back? or do they just swap the phones?

Re: The iPhone 3G thread and FAQ

Just a quick one as I have got round to using my 3GS 'properly' now after 4 weeks of all the other stuff. Can anyone please give me an idea about how to store documents on it, PDF's, Word docs, photoshop files etc etc? Especially so I can email them if I'm travelling, thanks

Orange offer a warranty as long as the contract, ie, up to 24 months. Seems fair enough.

This thread is massive! Price plans obviously vary, but I found Orange to be reasonable and competitive. The basic price plan will allow 1Gb surfing, which should be enough unless you spend more than several hours every day on line via your phone. Call and SMS costs are good, along with three free numbers to any network in Switzerland, which accounts for probably 50% of my personal calls. For international, either Skype or a simple landline. It won't break the bank.

You can store your stuff on Google (Gmail - as an attachment in an email to yourself & also on Google documents) and access them anywhere with your Google log in.
