Stupid everyday expressions

Just heard one of these on the radio, an everday expression that people use but which when examined is pretty daft:

"I saw it with my own eyes" - yes really? as opposed to what possibly borrowing someone else's?

Any others out there?

Russkov 04.09.2009 12:38

When people say, "Wow, that was literally..." followed by something hyperbolic and figurative.

Or on business TV where the CEO of the company says "going forward" to describe the future.

When is the last time we heard someone talking about "going backward".

I am almost ill every-time I hear this term.

- When people say, "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Fking right! What good is a cake if you can't eat it?

- When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the heck would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they?

- When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No tosser, I paid £5 to come to the cinema and stare at the frikkin floor.

- People who ask, "Can I ask you a question?". Didn't really give me a choice there, did you sunshine?

- When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it.

- When people say, "life is short". What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

- When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks, "Has the bus come yet?” If the bus came would I be standing here, Knob head?

- People who say things like 'My eyes aren't what they used to be'. So what did they used to be? Ears, football boots?

- When you're eating something and someone asks 'Is that nice?' No it's really revolting - I always eat stuff I hate. You tit.

- People who announce they are going to the toilet. Thanks that's an image I really didn't need. Cheers dude.

- McDonalds staff who pretend they don't understand you unless you insert the 'Mc' before the item you are ordering.....It has to be a Mc Chicken Burger, just a Chicken burger gets blank looks...........Well I'll have a Mc Straw and shove it in your Mc Eyes you Mc Bloody Tosser.

- When you're involved in a accident and someone asks 'are you alright? Yes fine thanks, I'll just pick up my limbs and be off!http://s.bebo.com/img/vid.gifhttp://s.bebo.com/img/vid.gifhttp://s.bebo.com/img/vid.gif

Not so much an expression, but when someone says "like" or "right" at the end of a sentence.
Also, people who end every phrase with an upward inflection, as if every bloody thing they say is a question.

Is it OK to tell a joke (an old one)on your thread Mr Wu? Too late I'll have done it before you can reply.:)
Man gets stopped in his car by a rude policeman and is given a load of tickets. Disgruntled man says to the copper 'What would you do if I called you a c*nt?' 'I'd nick you.' said the cop. 'What if I was to think it?' said the man. 'You are intitled to think what you like.' 'OK, I think you're a c*nt!' ;)

Aye, along with "call me", whilst making the thumb-and-little-finger phone gesture, or "email me" whilst typing on an imaginary keyboard.

The phrase "to be honest" gets my goat every time I hear it or read it.
Does it mean the speaker or writer is usually freakin' lyin'?

This reminds me of a German lady, MD's secretary, who used to sit next to me in one of my previous companies.

Once she got a call from some guy in US who said to her "I have a bone to pick with you"

She put the phone down and was FURIOUS.. !! She took it the wrong way, totally!

Afterwards I tried to explain to her that its an expression which means, he has some matter to discuss with you, nothing to do with Bone as in Boner.. :D:D (No I didnt say the last part :p)

But she wouldnt listen and kept saying that he could have said it straight rather than saying such rude line.

My parents used to "spank me black and blue"...

Despite the fact that I disliked the idea of being slapped, yet having options of bruise being either in black or blue colour, seemed to be some kind of alternative and more relieving. Please decide quickly which one, but not both of them simultaneously
