Re: A very long shot, help me find my grandfather!!

Hi,
I sent your mail to a collegue whose name is Rappo, and she said that the place of the family origins are the Schmitten - Bösingen area, as indicated already.
She was a bit startled; her father bears the french version of 'Giorgio' as first name but he doesn't have the indicated age...
She is not aware of any interest in genealogy in the family.
I'll keep you informed if she tells me anything more.
P.

Re: A very long shot, help me find my grandfather!!

wow, thanks

but you should also bare in mind this could just be the ramblings of a doped up, near death old woman! she could have just made the name up out of thin air or heard it on daytime tv, so for the moment we don't actually want to contact this man (if he exsists)!

Re: A very long shot, help me find my grandfather!!

an update

My grandmother limped along for a couple more years, and refused to talk about it, when she died my mother got the army records of the man listed on her birth certificate as her father, and yep, unless it was the worlds longest pregnancy (by quite a long way, think elephant) there is no way he was her father.

so watch this space, my mother seems to have a bee in her bonnet about it again now

That happens.

On a trip to Norway, we discovered that my wife's father was born two years after his father died.

You trying to get a work permit as you claiming grandfather was Swiss.....

I would try the church in Fribourg city, it's a Catholic canton so i guess there would be records and they could maybe direct you in a more focused way view time seems not to be in your favour.

My grandmother is more or less on the way out, she has to take a lot of high power pain killers, and has just confessed that my grandfather isn't who everyone thought he was, turns out it may be a guy called giorgio rappo, who was swiss but living in Ireland about 60 years ago (the spelling of giorgio might be incorrect, but the surname should be ok) he met my grandmother while my er who we thought was, grandfather was in prison (long story) Her name is Holly, no idea what surname she would have been using, probably wyrill.
Anyway this all came out this week, my mother has asked me to try and find this guy, he'll be around 80 now, if he is still alive!!

So if anyone can help me tracing this man i'd be very greatful, and so would my mum!!!

funny old world aint it? turns out (after living here 4 years) i may have swiss blood!!!!

Thanks
I AM YOUR GRANDFATHER.

Regards,

Giorgio.

Re: A very long shot, help me find my grandfather!!

No idea at all if this could help. One side of my Swiss family managed to track our Swiss (and non-Swiss) ancestry back to the 1400's. Unfortunately, I don't have any contact with that side of the family.

PS. If we're related, then I can guarantee that I have no money worth fighting for
PPS. You do realise that if you're trying to find the way-out of a U.K. passport, then I believe you might have had to apply with 18 / 21 (at least it was that way during my time ;-)

Could it be that the grandfather is a Swiss guy that was in London in 1972?

One of my colleagues is tracing their lineage through dna testing at this site:

Too scary for my liking.
