Is Morgannon a Troll?

Morgannon has increasingly been posting American politics threads on the English Forum Switzerland. In my opinion this behavior is trolling as he knows it gets up the noses of many members here.

So cast your votes.... Is he a troll? Or does he have a genuine interest in moving to Switzerland?

Maybe he is... but lets not get personal here.

Let him speak and indulge the way he wants.

Re: Is Morgannon a Troll?

He's certainly not a traditional troll - he posts on subjects that most people don't give two hoots about and he obviously is genuinely interested in what he posts. Your standard troll will post some shallow coment on an emotive subject.

It just strikes me as rather sad that he prefers to post his diatribes here rather than on an American political forum....

Re: Is Morgannon a Troll?

If a member doesn't like his posts then don't respond to them or "feed the troll".
Some members may have American partners, such as I, or enjoy discussion of this type. If you have no interest in the subjects that he chooses to discuss on the forum then fair enough, ignore his posts in future.
I can't see the point in making a thread to get opinions on another forum member to be honest.
Let him do his thing.

Re: Is Morgannon a Troll?

Well, he has been very vocal in the last political discussions, but he seems genuinly interested in moving to CH (Although, apparently he needs to convince himself first that CH is exactly like the US in terms of civil rights, gun ownership laws, etc, etc, but then with the Alps and cows included)

I think the reason why he gets up the noses of many here is because he takes a firm conservative/libertarian point of view and some people don't like/agree with that.

Re: Is Morgannon a Troll?

If the poll is in such bad taste then the mods can delete it if they want.

As for the ignore button, I don't like using it. But his posts have nothing to do with Switzerland and there are other forums for him to post American politics threads on. By posting threads that he knows get this sort of reaction then he is trolling in my opinion. The thing is he does it over and over again. (as someone pointed out I could be seen as trolling with this thread too, I'll freely admit that)

good point.

He knows that the constant American politics stuff annoys many forum users, he's been asked by the mod team to cool it down and yet here he goes again. I'd say it is trolling tendencies

As for the ignore feature, yep it comes in handy for times like this

No, it has not. But I do not see any personal attacks here.

I think this thread is simply giving you some food for thought, Morgannon. You've said you won't post as much US political stuff, yet you persist. Of course that's going to make some question if you're a troll or not.

ETA:

What is a troll? From Wikipedia Wikipedia reference-linkTroll_(Internet):

Quote:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Let me remind you of another person's stance... for which he posted a public apology.... obviously it was not genuine.

Quote:
Folks;

Several people have posted that I am posting nothing but politics. This is true, because I am a passionate follower of U.S. politics.

But I have taken to heart the complaints that this is not a U.S. political board. You all have a point.

I will not revise my opinion on U.S. politics, but I will refrain from posting so much of it.

That's an interesting stance.

The fact that one of your forum members has been singled out for possible scorn and derision doesn't register as a personal attack.

You should be in politics

But he never once said "lol".

There are a lot of posters who contribute nothing about living in Switzerland. Morgannon at least seems to believe in what he discusses - regardless of relevence to life here - and those threads are at least contributory to discussion of matters which are of at least passing interest to many in some way beyond "La la la laa laa ".

if you are sincerely interested to come live here why not ask more questions pertaining to switzerland instead?

and further clarification:

Quote:
When trolls find that their efforts are being successfully resisted, they often complain that their right to free speech is being infringed....
When a troll attacks a message board, he generally posts a lot of messages. Even if his messages are not particularly inflammatory, they can be so numerous that they drown out the regular conversations (this is known as 'flooding'). Needless to say, no one person's opinions can be allowed to monopolize a channel.
