27,617 posts were made that month.
- Just under 10% of the posts were made by 4 people.
- 20% of posts were made by 13 people.
- 30% of posts were made by 26 people

However, as of today there are 38,859 members!

26 people are keeping 40,000 entertained!
Thanks for this. It does explain a lot.

Re: EF stats - very interesting - i think so..

To think SETI - the Californian based institute 'Search for Extra Terrestial Intelligence' - closed due to lack of funds yet almost 1,500 posts were made on here over the last 24 hours regarding the grill colour in a stairwell, the boring life in Switzerland and a range of baby clothes / Ikea furniture / old cars for sale leads one to suppose there's not ...er, perhaps you see where this is going.

Who was the poster Poster, Rangatiradingdong?

And PhilMCR: Off Topic doesn't count

Re: EF stats - very interesting - i think so..

I was in the process of updating the data when i realised i was looking at the wrong thing.
Finding out how things have changed, people have changed.. New personalities come, old gone.. just like the soap operas on TV really.

We need to petition EB, I can produce loads of similar stats via 'xtra' pages...
If there is enough interest, he might find some time out of his busy schedule to provide some test data for me so I can develop the reports at home...

I have the VB schema, PHP, Apache etc just the reports are meaningless as I need real anonymised data to populate the schema he posted. I tried a few times but the column names and suitable values are quite obscure.

Its not the data and stats that you produce, its the story that you tell with the data.

For example: there are currently between 6000 and 7000 posts made every week by about 1000 people.
You would think that that would mean 7 posts per person right?
Except that last week, 1000 posts were made by 7 people.
The next 1000 posts were made by 15 people.
And there are 10,000 active users(!) I assume that excludes "guests",.

So we are down to 22 people making a LOT of noise, and about 9,978 just watching and laughing.

And there are 10 mods to sort through that banter.
So if we assume that 2000-3000 of the 7000 posts are from people who know what they are doing on here, that leaves 4000 per week, (60 a day, per Mod) to sort through for phone numbers, One Hit Wonders advertising jobs in the "Daily Life" section, or Nigerian bankers trading midgets. (Which is of course, not allowed on EF).

And these Mods still make time to make lifechangingly important posts.. along the lines of

Nigerian bankers trading midgets. (Which is of course, IS allowed on EF).
That would be me (for that week!)...I can type pretty quickly which obviously helps. Then again some would argue quality over quantity. I usually go for the cheap gags and one liners. I find them far too much to resist.

.....Time to start another pointless thread I think on Mongolian Yak Herding.

Last week was particularly boring hence the high post count. I come and go depending on the state of work/life and if I can be bothered..

I do wish more people would post and when I have spoken to other members at social events it was clear the majority of them were lurking in the background.

The forum is what we make it and to me it's about time the masses gave it a make over and started to contribute, rather than the usual topics and "Can I live off 2kg of coffee beans in Fiji as a road sweeper."

Re: EF stats - very interesting - i think so..

I am not sure how others' perception of a member changes when one becomes a mod...But it is rather sad people see it as a power trip. Lots repetitive routine work, 99% of it, and then squeze quick post here and there, or on one topic that I can't miss which means I will sleep even less. I do want to continue being a member and feel part of the community, though there is this uncomfortable barrier since people imagine some kind of pathetic power trip. Kwatch.

Forum and its structure is like anything else. Some people feel responsible and actually work, even though there is no tangible reward, they do it for the community, and some don't. Some people post, others just want entertainment or status.

Stats (in any layer) can be misleading, though, exactly for what has been written, since the work is not distributed evenly. Theoretically, yes. Practically, a few do. And it is not always those who are very visible or heard, that actually work/care for this place. And then you have the quality over quantity issue, hahaha....Man. Thanks for letting me rant. Makes me feel human.

Ha!

Modbot MC at your service...

I am slacking with school, gota iron and cram like nuts. Then keep some stats high and some low, supersonic speed, so people hear one another and tip toe while doing it.

so if it was made so that the posts of the top 30 posters could not be moderated, that would save a lot of work for the moderators...

I wonder how this Forum would look like if those 22 infamous posters were to loose their jobs.

Thats the funny thing.

I have been watching the changes over the past few months, and as some "heavy posters" cease, there always seems to be another one, usually of a different flavour, to take their place.

So then the audience changes, (also effecting share prices of some listed companies as their staff go back to work). The Face of The Forum changes.

Like the garden of life - you remove one weed, and up springs another.

Hahaha, I am not complaining, more explaining the background so people understand what it entails. It is a very honorable, intriguing job. The team is fantastic.

No its not funny

I guess one person (ingredient) can only have so much to offer (unless you start discussing news stories and the re-re-repeats of similar posts) so they have their fill and get bored and fade away. But then theres always someone "younger and willing" to take their place.

Staff going on or off work would hardly affect the share price of companies, otherwise they would hold as much leverage as staff of London Underground!
