is he Swiss? if i were to believe everything on this forum 'all' Swiss men are made to sit down and pee for varying reasons from noise after 10pm to hygeine
Yes, my hubby is Swiss... and it would not surprise me if it was teaching rather than necessity that brought it about.

The upstairs neighbor of his mother does not sit down and it sounds like a water fall is coming down to your head if you happen to be using facilities at the same time.

Another bugbear with me is when guests come and decide they need to do a number two. Why the hell do they have to use the toilet brush to aid the passage of the solids down the toilet??

I've had to replace SEVEN brushes since I came here because of the unsuitable (and decidedly sticky) bristle state of the brush after it's impromptu use as a poo poker.

For God's sake!!!

(Sorry if you have just sat down with your lunchtime sandwich... )
Dear god, unlucky you.....a case of too much fibre or not enough?

You've just described a shelf toilet, very typical in Germany.

Awful design. If you have an ambitious movement and build a nice vertical tower, you have to be ready to jump when it topples. If it falls forward.... obviously this is more of a problem for men.

I can be tempted to sit if there is good reading material around or a TV with wide channel selection

Re: Sit Down!!!! (mens toilet habits)

lolololol

this has given me a good chuckle.

My three year old refuses to sit and has taken to standing with his hands on his hips whilst peeing - my husband swears that he didn't teach him this.

caz who uses those disposable cleaning wipes you can flush

Hubby is going to hate me if he finds out I shared this but... he sits down. I think my sis-in-law says my brother does also (he didn't always ) but as he's in the navy and out to sea a lot, I imagine it has become a habit begun initially to keep from making a mess while under way.

Sorry to go off topic, but your husband is Swiss and he's a sailor on an aircraft carrier ? Blimey!
Has he got any stories about the "captian's log"?

I had a friend who was ex navy and there was a story he told and I have heard seperatley that they rigged up a toilet so that when Prince Phillip (the British queen's husband) went to the loo, they got hold of one of his number twos, toasted it and it is somewhere on display in glass show case. Sailors !
Sorry to introduce toilet humour to the thread.

Re: Sit Down!!!! (mens toilet habits)

I have a husband, and 3 boys under six in our house (and a male cat!) so I am not only seriously in the female minority, I am also pretty much always mopping down the bathroom floor, walls, wastebin and under the loo (sooooo revolting).

Despite many warnings and much futile persuasion the little blighters still delight in peeing standing up.

I have therefore designated our ensuite as a female only bathroom so at least they are contained.

I have made sure my husband is well aware that in our next house I am installing a urinal in a wet room for them all - wonder if I can get a timer so it showers itsself after every visit?

Oh, sorry! No, my brother is in the navy, apparently he and my hubby both sit... was trying to think of the reason for that, particularly in my brother's case as I know both of my brothers were taught to stand.

It seems more the "manly" thing to do to stand... at least so a lot of guys I know say.

Re: Sit Down!!!! (mens toilet habits)

Actually, if you remove the sense of sight by turning of the lights, and sitting, the sound is reminiscent of a running brook in the spring. And if you are really imaginative, you can hear the birds singing, too...

Hrm. A number of the grocery chains "back home" had some sort of automatic trigger misting for the veg on display, I'm sure it could be done, particularly if you hook it to a similar trigger that's used in that new Glade (or whatever) automatic air freshener.

Hmmm... something to ponder.

Perhaps a relocation of the toilet would help ?

Argh I have one of those in Amsterdam. I hate them. Which bone head though it would be a good idea to guarantee skid marks and maximise the odor. I now have to place a bed of TP before I start so that after I am done I can send the bobslead team off in a single flush.

Re: Sit Down!!!! (mens toilet habits)

Having had to share a bathroom with 40 people, 25 of whom were guys, it wasn't just the actually pissing around the seats (which most men were after a while trained to clean up), but the lack of flushing that got to me. They would **** like a race horse for a minute and then just leave! I don't want to see that! And the guys would just add to it, one after the other.

I know "If it's yellow, it can mellow. If it's brown flush it down" but that only applies to camping or boats or times where toilets have limited usage.

Ew.

I saw one of these strange designs in an Amsterdam hotel too. The husband would refer to the ledge as "the observation deck".

Ew.
A few years back I volunteered on an archaeological dig in Jordan. There were only 3 toilets between about 30 of us in the dig house. One particular elderly gentleman was reknowned for leaving a floater every morning. I was always mortified when I would finally get to the head of the morning toilet queue and the next door to open would reveal Mr No-Flush. He would always toddle out holding his steaming cup of tea too.

So not only did I have to deal with his "leavings" I had to mentally catalogue every mug the man used in order to avoid it like the plague during tea break.

Give me a bit of pee on the tiolet seat any day over that.
