Re: Movie recommendations?

I watched transformers 2 at the weekend.

Basically rubbish with some nice special effects and michael bay recycling every cliched scene from his previous films all over again.

On the other hand, last night i watched Into the Wild with emile hirsch and directed by sean penn.... now this is a good film.... suggest you catch it some time.

It's woefully cheesy though. Some cracking oneliners that would make Sly Stallone or even Steven Segal proud...
Wolvy has his share of cheesy one-liners...

I would watch Transformers 2 still...if just for the Transformers. And Megan Fox...

And "Into The Wild" is not just good...its "really" good. Got it on DVD as soon as it came out.

Is it me, or is the movie industry churning out mediocre semi-good if-you've-nothing-better-to-do movies like they're going out of fashion?!
Hmmm...I can meet you halfway. Yes, there are not many good movies out there...most of them are the same old run-of-the-mill movies. But every once in a while, some good ones come out.

Like, over the last year, I liked Dark Knight, Kung-Fu Panda, Wall-E, The Bank Job, Smart People, Body of Lies, The Reader, Gran Torino, The Wrestler, Fanboys etc...

And so far this year, State of Play, Wolverine, Star Trek and Up. Still half a year to go. And im looking forward to Year One, it should be fun.

Re: Movie recommendations?

I am not sure what the rating for Bruno is in Switzerland. In the US it is R in the UK-X. I would not recommend it for teenagers- it has way more sexual content than Borat. there were only about 20 people in the audience ( hot sunny day) 4 walked out, 8 were laughing hysterical. One man started shouting "No! no! No don't!-Oh no!"

I watched "The Hurt Locker", about a Bomb Disposal team in Iraq in 2004, last week. Definitely worth the watch...

Re: Movie recommendations?

I recently watched Funny People starring Adam Sandler and it wasn't what I expected, it was funny in places but surprisingly emotional in others. It's not the kind of film you would watch on a first date or with your parents. The movie had enough jokes and storyline for about 1 and half hours but it goes on for nearly 2 and half, far too long. If you liked Judd Apatow's other movies (40yr old virgin and knocked up) you might be a little dissapointed by this one. Best to wait for DVD than spend the money at the cinema.
This is however a female's point of view as my partner enjoyed this movie.

I didn't see the trailer before watching this movie, I just saw it now and it pretty much ruins the whole movie, but here it is anyway:

The Hangover is worth a watch, probably the best comedy of the year and you haven't got a clue what's going to happen next, it's so random.

Re: Movie recommendations?

Saw Public Enemies last weekend. A bit slow at parts but the choice of using a digital hand camera at times ruined the experience for me. Some of the scenes felt like behind the scenes footage.

Re: Movie recommendations?

Moon does look good.... as well as The Hurt Locker, definitely the next two movies to watch for me..

Saw the trailer for G.I. Joe yesterday and the first thing to come to mind is that they did a remake of Team America without puppets....

Re: Movie recommendations?

District 9 should be out soon.

Then later in the year "Where the Wild Things Are" by Spike Jonze

Re: Movie recommendations?

I saw District 9, the new Peter Jackson -produced sci-fi movie set in Johannesberg. This is one interesting and differant film, it has the same style of a Blair Witch Project or a Cloverfield film but not as annoying. Original, enyoyable and entertaining movie, not sure if it's worth all the hype but worth a watch. Best to see it on the big screen rather than DVD.
I look forward to the sequal!

Re: Movie recommendations?

I agree that (500) Days of Summer was a really good film. A nice break from the usual Hollywood love story and a little bit more like things happen in real life

Re: Movie recommendations?

A few of Indy type movies that I quite liked

"World's greatest Dad" - Robin Williams (despite the name its not a movie for kids)
"The Management" - Jennifer Aniston
"Two lovers" - Joaquin Phoenix and Gwenyth Paltrow
