Loved it. And my taste in movies is vast. From sappy romance to chainsaw decapitation horror flicks. I'd even go as far as to say that I'd place that one toward the top of my list of favorites...

Saw Grown Ups yesterday. Quite funny in bits but no real story of any note. worth a look but a missed opportunity imo.

Re: Movie recommendations

Watched 'The expendables' a couple of days ago. This movie has no storyline but it was still entertaining. Mostly because of all the former action movie heros that participated and quite some funny one-liners.
A homage to action movies of the 80ties, nothing intellectual. Lots of explosions, guns and testosterone.

I had my Stallone day last week. I re watched Rocky Balboa...again and still think its the best since Rocky. Not that hard though.
I then watched The Expendables which as Zymogen said it was alright but I don't see me watching it again.

Saw "Away We Go" yesterday.
Nice mature movie with bits of comedy and real life thrown in.
Good watch.

The pivotal scene where they all hold hands (you know which one) was more emotional than any drama I've seen this year. Pixar redefine what children's movies are with every one they make.

Lots of people did. It actually resonates with men as much as it does with women. BBC wrote a good article about it:

Re: Movie recommendations

"Hedwig and the angry inch" is an excellent musical film from 2001. A bit old, i realise, but excellent nonetheless. it's thought-provoking on many levels and quite campy on others, and on the whole quite entertaining i found.

Re: Movie recommendations

Salt: I saw it last week and was pleasantly surprised. Angelina Jolie was good in the lead - she runs like a man, fights like a man and shoots a gun like a man. The one really unfortunate scene for me was when she was disguised as a man - it was ludicrous.

But, overall a good spy film with a somewhat plausible plot.

Would love to hear what the native Russian-speakers on this forum think of the few lines she delivered in Russian.

A couple of my friends were extras in that movie, parts of it were actually shot in Albany NY, the background was cleverly changed.

Re: Movie recommendations

Few days ago I watched Solaris. I liked it. But every movie that I like has low score on IMDB, but I think because most people like blockbusters.

If you like romance movies but with interesting SF story in bacground, I reccomend

I didn't mind it to be honest. Not great though.

The American is a good film.

Something from a few years back is Sideways and Son of Rambow.

Really? Well I just got so involved in it. I don't usually enjoy these kinds of movies but I was really touched by this one.

Okay so these are both "guys movies". I haven't seen The American but I did see Sideways and told my husband it's a typical guys movie. Son of Rambow looks funny.. I'll check that one out.

Re: Movie recommendations

Speaking of guy's movies, sooo excited the ZH film festival has given me the opportunity to see Buried (before it actually comes out here in November) and Machete (which I doubt they'll release here at all)... so tomorrow and Friday will be all about claustrophobia and bloodshed.

[BTW I don't think Sideways is necessarily a guy movie (if you're enough of a wine snot)... but then referencing the movies above perhaps I'm not the best gauge...]

Is it just me or no good movies have been released lately....more and more, I find myself watching old 80s movies.
