I really like Skins and I don't think there's anything comparable in the US.

On the other hand the US does produce some great series that the UK has a problem matching. In particular we're rubbish at crime programmes.

If you like Skins, you might want to try Breaking Bad . . . it's an entirely different kind of programme, but with its dark comedy and edginess, you might like it.

Re: TV Series discussed

Has anyone been watching The Wonders of the Solar System on BBC2/HD?

It's only a three episode series, but the first two episodes so far have been great. The presenter, Professor Brian Cox, talks with boundless enthusiasm and explains complex concepts in an easy to understand chatty manner.

In HD, the images are beautiful.

It's on on Sundays at 21.00 and repeated later in the week (Tuesday at 19.00). It's the last episode this week. If you can watch it on iPlayer then I'd recommend taking the time to watch the previous episodes.

Re: TV Series discussed

Okay, really old and long thread.. so I apologize if this has already been posted...
I watch all of my favorite series through this site in English:
http://tv.blinkx.com (you can watch current/popular movies there too)

My favorites are: Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Big Bang Theory, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Dead Like Me, Dharma and Greg, South Park, My Name is Earl, and probably a few I can't think of at the moment... Enjoy

Re: TV Series discussed

Having watched both series of Rome again (think Eastenders in Togas ) which was great, I am looking for another series to watch in a bid to avoid the tosh on Local TV. I stumbled upon this:

http://entertainment.timesonline.co....cle7057124.ece

I can't wait to watch it. The article suggests the colaboration between Hanks and Spielberg will be slightly different to Band of Brothers, I'm hoping better.

Has anyone seen any yet?

I just read some reviews - didn't sound very enthusiastic. While Band of Brothers (one of my all-time favorites, btw.) set new standards in terms of realism, "The Pacific" apparently is our typical American heroes' tale with a nagging patriotic theme, lots of kitsch and the obligatory love story rather than good story-telling and realistic depictions of the events.

Re: TV Series discussed

The third season of Breaking Bad started this week and the first episode is brilliant. It has dark menace, weirdness, humour, commentary on family and sentiment and also the banality of suburban life. Astonishing TV.

I've heard a lot of good things about this series.

I need a replacement since 30 Rock is worn out. Looks like this may be the one

Is the Wire on 'right now' . . . I thought the final season was a couple of years ago?

Re: TV Series discussed

Haven't read all the replies, but didn't see these mentioned in the past few posts; sorry if they are earlier on the list.

Glee
Dexter
The Vampire Diaries
Melrose Place (mindless trash tv, but irresistible!)
The InBetweeners
Californication

Addicted to it! And it is the first American TV series to be broadcast worldwide within a few days of being shown in US, too!

Sorry; I hit quick reply and I thought it would thread it with the original -- it's Flash Forward, though. Absolutely brilliant show!
