Re: TV Series discussed

Done some real digging around today for new TV series to watch, and have found the following beauties...

Sons of Anarchy - Crime, Biker Gang - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124373/

The Pacific - War, Drama - 8.4/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374463/

Brotherhood - Crime, Mafia - 8.1/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457229/

Carnivale - Supernatural, Drama/Horror - 9.0/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319969/

Deadwood - Western, Drama - 9.2/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348914/

Mad Men - 60's era, Drama - 9/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804503/

Californication - Drama - 9.0/10 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804503/

All look awesome. Currently on episode 1 of Sons of Anarchy and it's got a great ensemble cast with some very recognisable and highly under-rated actors, I have a good feeling about it. ALso REALLY looking forward to Carnivale and Deadwood judging from the user feedback and Amazon reviews. All the above series look cool, so if anyones running out of ideas, check them out.

I recently watched both series of Carnivale. Pretty good stuff.

I enjoyed Sons of Anarchy but worried that it was a little cheesy, for precisely the same reason that middle-aged Swiss guys wearing Hell's Angels-type stuff is cheesy.

Have you tried Breaking Bad yet? That's still my favourite.

Hmm just looking for it on the suual sites and from the comments it appears all versions besides the Blu-Ray are censored... I might hold out for a bit then.

Most of these are available on ebay through dvd copies from the tv, if your morals permit you to enter into such a transaction...personally, as I like HBO, I would be pretty happy to pay the full price. Now, if it was Sky?Fox, it would be another story.
Thanks for that, but I'm with you. Trying to keep my karma good. It's going to be a long wait, though!

Just about to finish Series 1 and don't think it's been too cheesy at all compared to many series... and it's quite common for biker gangs to have older members so I don't find it cringey either. I've really enjoyed it... so much I watched all 13 eps in 2 days.

I really liked Carnivale too although I knew alot of people who didnt cotton on. Its really like marmite that one. And I happen to like marmite. I heart HBO although I really dont know what they were thinking when they canned that series. Phoey.

Currently another one on my list is "Breaking Bad". Not sure if its been mentioned on this thread but I am thoroughly entertained.

True Blood finale onto my NAS and all ready to be watched tonight.

Thanks for reminding me, downloading as I type. Hope it's not as dire as the last two eps.

Re: TV Series discussed

Just watched the finale of TB and I have to say... it was pretty pathetic. The last 3 episodes were really bad, I think the show has lost its' way.

I absolutely loved Breaking Bad.....but there seems to be a trend of filler episodes between the really amazing ones.

Just finished off Modern Family (after pacing myself). Can't wait for the next season

I wasn't digging True blood this year. I will still continue to watch. I wish they would kill Tara and her quivering liip though.

Re: TV Series discussed

My face was in my hands towards the end of the final episode of True Blood. Weak, lame.....are the words I'll use to describe it. Glad that Eric is alright though. hee hee. I will still watch the next season to see how it unfolds. porsch is right - tara is as useful as a standing lamp in the corner.

On the bright side, Dexter is returning next week, together with lots of my other shows!

Once again, check out Breaking Bad. Dark comedy about a teacher experiencing mid-life crisis and decided to be a meth dealer. Wont say anymore but worth the time and laughs.

I watched the very first episode of Dexter last night. Wasn't too sure about it. I will watch the full season anyway and see what happens.

I know what you mean, but I'm not sure I'd class them as filler. In between the heavy/action-filled episodes, I think they have episodes which serve other functions than narrative. Instead you have character development, even for characters which have relatively minor roles, you have background setting, you also have extended narrative setup for later episodes. I don't think it would work as well if every single episode was explosive.

BTW - I totally agree about True Blood jumping the shark. Shame.

I'd even go as far as to say, taste notwithstanding, If you don't like Dexter then you don't appreciate good TV. It's unique, funny, and very well-written.

Anyway, i've already seen Dexter, so if your threat is genuine then i will use all I learned on the show to do a pre-emptive strike. You won't even see the needle coming...

Re: TV Series discussed

Weeds has started up again, so has Merlin. Greys anatomy starts next week (in US), Stargate Universe & Caprica are also due to start soon.

Also sounds like there will be a new 'Cougar Town' series.

Hopefully we also get a new. Flashforward

Nope. Flashforward has been canned. Which is fine by me. The first series was fabulous but it got repetitive and unoriginal by the middle of the second - like Prison Break.
