I really liked Carnivale too although I knew alot of people who didnt cotton on. Its really like marmite that one. And I happen to like marmite. I heart HBO although I really dont know what they were thinking when they canned that series. Phoey.
I understand that was mainly due to production costs. The original plan was for six series.

I'd even go as far as to say, taste notwithstanding, If you don't like Dexter then you don't appreciate good TV. It's unique, funny, and very well-written.

Anyway, i've already seen Dexter, so if your threat is genuine then i will use all I learned on the show to do a pre-emptive strike. You won't even see the needle coming...
Well I've only seen one episode. I couldn't find a HD rip though which was a shame

Hmph, I will watch it, but it's really annoying getting into a good series just to see it cut short.

They wrap it up adequately. And there are two whole series to get into.

Hang in there. It takes a while for all the main characters to unfold and stick themselves in your head. Once you get familiar with them and their roles and impact on Dexter's life, it gets highly addictive.

I know what you mean, but I'm not sure I'd class them as filler. In between the heavy/action-filled episodes, I think they have episodes which serve other functions than narrative. Instead you have character development, even for characters which have relatively minor roles, you have background setting, you also have extended narrative setup for later episodes. I don't think it would work as well if every single episode was explosive.

BTW - I totally agree about True Blood jumping the shark. Shame.

Agreed, they pace the show well, and those episodes are very important for the character development. But I'm not as much a fan of the shows work as a typical cliffhanger drama (or however the mainstream shows are classified nowadays). That being said, the show really wouldn't work without them.
Hopefully the next season continues on a similar trend.

Nope. Flashforward has been canned. Which is fine by me. The first series was fabulous but it got repetitive and unoriginal by the middle of the second - like Prison Break.
Yes, saw that as I decided to have a look for it on the Web

So annoying when this happens

Re: TV Series discussed

Another show that many of you might like is 'Rubicon'.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1389371/

http://www.amctv.com/originals/Rubicon/

It is an espionage thriller starring James Badge Dale (HBO's Pacific). Very well acted, written and produced. It is one of those shows that I wish came in at least 2 hour episodes.

The one small caveat I would have for it is that it is very detailed. To get the most out of it you must watch it without distraction as many very small details in the plot surface later. I would even suggest to collect the episodes, and watch them in a marathon session on a long rainy day.

Well, just finished all 3 seasons of Deadwood, and wow... seriously one of the most mesmerising, well-written series I have ever seen... and certainly by FAR the best Western I have ever seen. The characters were not only memorable, but largely flawlessly portrayed by the entire cast who were given an unbelievable script to work with, including some absolute stand-out, stellar performances from Ian McShane as Al Swerengen (who was also hilarious, especially when talking to Wu) and William Sanderson as E.B. Farnum. The locations, costumes and dialogue were so believable and uncensored it was almost like being there.

I hope to God they make some movies to finish it off and wrap it all off, because the way they left it was agonizing. One of the most gripping things I have ever watched (hence finishing the entire thing in a week) HBO were mad to cancel it. I really can't speak highly enough of it.

10/10.

Now, onto Mad Men...
