Hi there,

I have been a big fan of buying TV shows on DVD from amazon.co.uk since i came out here 5 years ago... its really helped me through me time here, and in fact its a great thing to watch a great show on dvd whenever you want, and watch as many episodes as you want (before you fall asleep)!!
I agree. For a series with an long-term arc it's absolutely fantastic to be able to watch it as you choose. I have to admit to having a weekend-long lost-a-thon when I downloaded a load of Season2 episodes (Likewise, Battlestar Galactica)

I'm with you there as I have access to it at the moment on Sci-Fi channel but I don't like the 4:3 look. However, beware as BBC2 often show scifi programmes at 6 or 7pm.

This means cuts even with mild material like the various 'Star Trek' series. Having been watching downloads of 'Heroes' I have to say that it's going to be absolutely butchered if BBC2 choose to also show it in this timeslot......

Re: Are you addicted to a TV series?

I am so totally addicted to Tv series and I have a nice list as well.

Stargate SG-1
Stargate Atlantis

Numb3rs
CSI
CSI: Miami
NCIS
Bones
Grey's Anatomy
House MD

As well as Jag, Charmed, and Dr.Quinn Medicine Woman, but those no longer have new episodes.

Hi
I'm a new member.
Sounds like there's just guys taking part in this discussion?
Nobody seems to mention
Grey's Anatomy
Desperate Housewifes
Dr. House

And if you're not only talking about new stuff:
Kath and Kim
Coupling

Anyway, consider myself a huge TV Series Junkie, but only on funny/romantic stuff...

Was just surfing the net to find cool new TV series from the UK to get hooked on.
Any suggestions?
We have just about ALL mentioned House! And Kath and Kim, whilst not something I would go out of my way to watch, I have to admit is pretty entertaining.

I nearly cried when they brought Who back a couple of years ago. I don't really like the current guy, but Ecclestone brought an edge to the role that it lost after Jon Pertwee left.
Tennant? I think I appreciate Eccleston's performance more, but then I haven't watched those eps for a year or more now. I think it's probably just some shock at the new guy, as I believe Tennant is utterly brilliant, and works well as the Doctor. And if you think the edge was lost before T. Baker, what about his performances in Seeds of Doom (all agressive), or Logopolis (haunted, kinda like Eccleston at times), or The Deadly Assassin? Davison had some brilliant times too - watch the very last minutes of Warriors of the Deep, or ALL of Caves of Androzani.

I think Tennant's Doctor reminds me a bit of Tom Baker's, and that's why I don't like him so much. There's a bit too much flippancy in the character for my liking. No, I don't want a fscking jelly baby!

Baker wasn't bad, but was just not as good as Pertwee, in my opinion. I think that's something to do with everyone having a Doctor that they grew up with and felt happy with, and for me it was Pertwee's Doctor. Actually I always thought Pertwee's irritable Doctor was brilliant acting, then I met him in real life and he was just the same .

Baker's Doctor wasn't bad, just not terrific, for me, but in my opinion the character just got sillier and sillier as the actors changed (maybe each successive actor was trying to out-eccentric the previous one).

The Roger Moore of Dr Who. Now I'm waiting for the Daniel Craig of Dr Who

John Pertwee was the man!

TBH, Pertwee was the one I grew up with too, and he's certainly my favourite, at least partly because of that reason. I recognise T Baker just nailed it somehow though, in his time in the role.

I blame the producer partly for that, and partly the decade. I don't care what anyone argues, the 1980s were just so damn silly that they were bound to come out looking worse than shows made a decade or more earlier on even smaller budgets.

Desperate Housewives S3 is much better than Series 2. They have some terrible nice twists and turns in the story.

Ugly Betty is very good, a good hearthwarming show with believable actors and -what Desperate Housewives is missing since Season1- a good taste of Fun

Re: Are you addicted to a TV series?

Eastenders, Desperate Housewives (both absolute mind-trash, but an excellent way to decompress from stressful job)
Sopranos, Silent Witness, Prime Suspect, Law & Order,
Dalziel And Pascoe, Colombo
(murder and violence also being a good way to unwind, not that I indulge in doing either of those things myself )

Re: Are you addicted to a TV series?

Speaking of absolute mind-trash, I was home early yesterday and while zapping caught a bit of Bold and Beautiful after about 10 years and guess what? It's still exactly the same! The actors look a lot older and Taylor is still there but with collagen implants (yech). I must've caught a good episode because .... yeah, like one couldn't have guessed in a million years ... Ridge walked out of his and Taylor's marriage in a scene charged with tears and rage and Stephanie is still mostly worried that Brooke will use the "situation" to her advantage.

How do they keep going with the same story line for this long?

Re: Are you addicted to a TV series?

Ah Nanda... you have no idea how often Taylor has risen from the dead . The Bold and the Beautiful is actually the most successful series, it has run for nearly 20 years (so I read anyway) and is translated into almost every language... Infact, on a trip to Japan I caught it briefly on tv there too... I speak no Japanese but was able to follow this absolute rubbish with ease

Re: the IT crowd

yes, a very good series (IT Crowd) and if you fake a UK IP address, you can download reasonable versions of the episodes (they probably pulled them now).

New season coming shortly on Channel 4.
