I haven't quite had the impression that I was enjoying special treatment in the positive sense you know...

Well, I think men are afraid of women who earn more than they or look more career minded than themselves.
I think (please forgive me if I'm wrong but I moved her only four months ago!) as well that Swiss people look at working women a bit different, I think they would rather have a house wife rather that a working woman next to them.
For example, I met this Brazilian girl (late thirties) who came here to visit a friend and met this handsome Swiss guy (same age) he works and earns pretty good money, is a nice person, has two children with his ex wife and Did I mention he is handsome?...anyway, this girl met him, went out couple of times, kept in touch while back home and guess what...he sent her a ticket to Switzerland as a Christmas present, once here..he proposed her! She is not a career woman, she has no plans to work and now she is looking after his house, cooking meals and doing his laundry. Both are thrilled and he thinks he has got everything he wanted in a woman..so..maybe their priorities are a bit different?

So you are basing your view on swiss men being afraid of working women and wanting a housewife based on one swiss man who proposed to your jobless Brazilian friend. Hmm.
