To throw in a bit of hope into this thread ...

I heard 2009 was a record year of babies being born in Switzerland and the average age of those dear mothers was something between 35 - 40.

Why should 2010 be any different say !!!
In the UK; with the snow we have had over Xmas and to date, I gather the maternity clinics will be busy in September.
Saying that it did say on the news that the sales of contraception shot up but then there is a recession as well.

Begga, how about Iceland?
Your country seems to go through a rather rough patch as well doesn't it.
Does that have an influence on its dating scene, more babies and all?

I hope my friends wont kill me for posting this....

While I am happily married for quite a few years, I have not one but THREE female friends who have been single ever since I have met them.

The three are in their late 30's early 40's, and what they have in common is: they are expat, they are senior professionals in large multinationals (i.e., independent and good earners), and attractive. From where I see it, there is nothing wrong with any of the three. Oh! And they love sports and outdoors!

One of these friends tried actively the whole expat dating scene... unsuccessfully.
Another friend tried PARSHIP for a year now, unsuccessfully...
The other one is just way too picky and I doesnt look like she has tried beyond being set up from a limited circle of friends.

Any clues why is this? Any ideas how to get them out of their single-sein? None of them wants to stay single (otherwise I wouldnt be asking for help).

Yeah that is correct actually. There was a baby boom in 2009.
Seems like some ladies thought about it as a safety net, as it is not allowed to fire pregnant women. Yes, I'm serious, I know of some girls who got pregnant to keep their jobs...

As long as we live in era of EFing or internet chatting, dating,... not that much chance of meeting physically!

Maybe Begga can confirm or deny this but I understand that people get married quite young in Iceland.
One of my clients was working out there for a year and tells me the women are "well tastey looking".

However, I look at the icelandic singer, Bjork; I would say she was not attractive at all and doesn't ooze any sex at all in the way she carries herself and perhaps that is why she hangs out so much in the UK.

Haha...I have to say it is a matter of opinion and taste, my gay best friend goes bonkers for her. And she is humongously popular, so I think more people find her attractive than not.

Btw, I do agree with you, I find her pretentious and her muzzak boring, but whatever floats people's boat

Well, I'm not sure what to compare Iceland with. It is definitely very different from Switzerland. Couples move in together, have babies etc waaay younger than here, and it is perfectly normal to be a mother (even a single mother) AND have a cool carrier.

Personally I think Björk is very cool. But she isn't very icelandic looking honestly. And it is funny how some people think all of us girls must look like here. A Swiss guy asked me if everyone had black hair in Iceland... I needed to double check my own hair before answering that...

Not much chance of meeting...?

Have you not seen the Events section of this forum? I feel relatively positive that DB and MN are not the only pairing resulting from the chance to meet via this forum.

So you are basing your view on swiss men being afraid of working women and wanting a housewife based on one swiss man who proposed to your jobless Brazilian friend. Hmm.
Well, as I said, I'm only living here four months ago, perhaps I'm wrong, I got that impression not only for the Brazilian girl (who I could say is my acquaintance, more than friend) case; I had the chance to chat with a few Swiss ladies who are house wives, they told me I should not feel "guilty" for being a full time mum here, as this is well accepted and even "expected" from a married woman in the Swiss society (we live in a very small town, in the German part of the country) so, I thought, if a Swiss man grew up in a small village with this in mind, maybe his expectations for a woman might be different to the ones of a man who grew up in a big city in another part of the world. So, is not that I'm assuming things, or making my mind about Swiss men based on one case, I was just trying to put some ideas on the discussion table, I trust that is allowed when discussing something in this forum?

Don't think it's been posted yet, but here's one guy who used mathematics to explain why it's so hard to find a girlfriend:
http://www.myfoxla.com/dpps/news/dpg...100112_5537488

Wouldn't you think that using math to explain something like this is perhaps one of the primary reasons WHY you're unable to find a girlfriend in the first place

Cleaver...
First I saw his pic, and thought 'wtf - he's cute and smart, he could have any girl'
Started to read...: 'of the 30 million women in the UK, only 26 would be suitable girlfriends for him.'
No maths are needed. He doesn't have a girlfriend because his demands are just too extreme.

Well, they do mention at the end that he's been with someone for the past 6 months... but I did find how he got those statistics somewhat funny nevertheless.

I wonder if the girl he's seeing even falls within the parameters he used.

I'm almost willing to bet not.
