Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Complaint:

what the heck is wrong with swiss videogame shops???

A bunch of interesting games has been released on the 7th of March, including Dynasty Warriors 6 (I'm addicted to Dynasty Warriors). I couldn't find the game nowhere in Switzerland, last time I checked the shops right before Easter, maybe Wednesday.

I went home in Italy for the Easter holidays. In Italy every shop has Dynasty Warriors and all the new games released on the 7th March! I bought this game that I needed badly in Italy.

Just out of curiosity, I checked again a few shops yesterday...and still no trace of the new games in Switzerland.

Welcome to (consumer-) live in Switzerland! If you haven't noticed yet: Switzerland always gets EVERYTHING last (eeePC, iPhone, Nikon D3, Lyngbox, macbook air, ipod touch, iTunes Music Store, PS3, Xbox 360 etc. etc. etc.) You can be lucky if you get your stuff at all in Switzerland. Lots of items are NEVER available here and have to be bought abroad.

I guess that's the price for not being part of any major trade unions.

My bad, hit the wrong checkbox. I don't have PS-anything and would not consider it.

Sorry!

not true. ipod touch, macbook air, ps3 and xbox 360 were not released in switzerland any later than the rest of europe.

i fondly remember waiting in line on day of release of xbox 360.

personally im hoping that sony release a new version of the ps3 in switzerland with a bigger hard drive and the dual shock controller, and if they do that and metal gear solid gets great reviews, i might take the plunge.

www.wog.ch is a great shop with fast, free shipping. The prices are competitive, but only compared to other Swiss retailers.

I preorded GTAIV from the UK, but it looks like I may not need to since everything seems to be in English. Still, 35 GBP versus 99 Sfr. is still a relatively big difference.

The only reason I want a PS3 is to play MLB The Show 2008. Best baseball game ever made! (and Little Big Planet, but that's a long ways off)

I'm gonna get GTA from the UK too.

All those thinking of getting it here should be aware that previous versions have fallen foul of German censorship, and have been altered for the German speaking market (So I've been told by a swiss friend). I believe the "Rampage" side missions were removed in one version, as an example.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I have 2 x PS3's one form the US and a local one. They are great, mainly used for BD playback, but currently buy most of the movies from the US.

Not installed the latest firmware that came out on Monday, guess will get round to this at the weekend.

One thing I can't understand is WHY the local discs CANNOT all include English!!! BD has 25/50Gb capacity so should be plenty of space to include English. So I ended up improting a few of the games (not that I've had chance to play them to be honest).

Me too, and feeling bored one afternoon, I wrote to EA about it, this is their reply, looks like a stock one.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Creek is a pretty cool map, but I didn't expect to like Broadcast as much as I do. I thought it would be more of a Vacant-style close quarters map, but it has a little bit of everything. Sitting in the ruined buildings on the other side of the parking lot shooting at people on the rooftop is a blast.

Chinatown is confusing as hell, but I imagine I'll like it more when I get used to where everything is.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I don't know what the deal is with the 4th map. It's never come up in rotation for me, but I've only been playing TDM with the new maps. I hate those small maps anyhow for the most part so I'm not really eager to try it out, but it would be nice to actually see it every now and again.

Edit - Killhouse is apparently only available in Team Tactical and Cage Match, I guess.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

i can join the party now, as i picked up a ps3 on the weekend with gran turismo prologue.

the game itself i find slow and boring. hard to advance and the sensation of speed is really not there with the smaller cars. perhaps it will be different with faster ones if i ever get that far. also, there were a lot of probs updating the game to play multiplayer. not well executed if you ask me. i much prefer PGR on the xbox, and before you say, GT prologue isnt that much of a "real" driving simulator... there are very few mods you can make. oh well. not impressed. in my opinion, the japanese houses are resting on their laurels like they often do, with tekken, ridge racer et al. they rarely truely innovate.

as for the machine itself, it has a nice design, the slot loader is cool, and it is blissfully blissfully quiet compared to my 360.

the interface is all well and good i suppose, and i could download some extra software that allows me to stream content from my mac to the ps3... which is great so i can watch some movies and photos in my living room. photos worked excellently... and the slideshow feature on the ps3 is most impressive. movies were a bit hit and miss.

the ps3 store is "ok", i could download some demos, but in terms of execution and content i much prefer xbox live marketplace...

controllers are ok, better than i thought since i heard that they are quite light in feel... im sure i will pick up a dual shock when it arrives and prefer that. i didnt use the sixaxis feature yet. im not yearning for it.

blu ray seemed fine. i have 720p displays which output at 1080i (and then probably downscale). i have the hd dvd add on for the xbox 360, and my initial impression was that the hd dvd add on produced a better picture. but i will reserve judgement on that for now.

i think for the most part i will use the ps3 "mostly" for blu ray and streaming content. I still strongly prefer the 360 for games. im looking forward to metal gear solid, but still dont think it will be the most amazing game ever, just a cool story.

for multiplayer im sure i will stick with xbox live. it works great and im very happy with that. i have pre reserved GTA IV for the 360, and think i wont change it to the ps3. Im also looking forward to ninja gaiden coming soon for xbox.
