i can join the party now, as i picked up a ps3 on the weekend with gran turismo prologue.

the game itself i find slow and boring. hard to advance and the sensation of speed is really not there with the smaller cars. perhaps it will be different with faster ones if i ever get that far. also, there were a lot of probs updating the game to play multiplayer. not well executed if you ask me. i much prefer PGR on the xbox, and before you say, GT prologue isnt that much of a "real" driving simulator... there are very few mods you can make. oh well. not impressed. in my opinion, the japanese houses are resting on their laurels like they often do, with tekken, ridge racer et al. they rarely truely innovate.

as for the machine itself, it has a nice design, the slot loader is cool, and it is blissfully blissfully quiet compared to my 360.

the interface is all well and good i suppose, and i could download some extra software that allows me to stream content from my mac to the ps3... which is great so i can watch some movies and photos in my living room. photos worked excellently... and the slideshow feature on the ps3 is most impressive. movies were a bit hit and miss.

the ps3 store is "ok", i could download some demos, but in terms of execution and content i much prefer xbox live marketplace...

controllers are ok, better than i thought since i heard that they are quite light in feel... im sure i will pick up a dual shock when it arrives and prefer that. i didnt use the sixaxis feature yet. im not yearning for it.

blu ray seemed fine. i have 720p displays which output at 1080i (and then probably downscale). i have the hd dvd add on for the xbox 360, and my initial impression was that the hd dvd add on produced a better picture. but i will reserve judgement on that for now.

i think for the most part i will use the ps3 "mostly" for blu ray and streaming content. I still strongly prefer the 360 for games. im looking forward to metal gear solid, but still dont think it will be the most amazing game ever, just a cool story.

for multiplayer im sure i will stick with xbox live. it works great and im very happy with that. i have pre reserved GTA IV for the 360, and think i wont change it to the ps3. Im also looking forward to ninja gaiden coming soon for xbox.
Erm yes start winning a few races on prologue and you'll get the better cars, I love the GTR07 v v quick compared to the lower class cars.

Working on the F1 at the moment, oh and don't forget the manafacturers races that are hidden in the dealership menus. Oh and the reverse eiger is a pain coming downhill into the left 2nd gear bend, v little room for error.

Some tracks are a absolute B and you need the special spec motors to get close to winning them.

Anyway have fun and I'll post a pic when i have that F1 car

I got that GT prologue too, it's really just a demo though, and it's missing a lot of features. Bit dissapointed with it too but I heard there would be some more updates.

How did you get the streaming working on the mac? I'd tried it a while ago but ccouldn't get it to work properly.

For any mac owner with a PS3 or 360, this company will be your new best friend:

http://www.nullriver.com/

I use Connect360 to stream movies, music, and photos to my 360. Medialink is the PS3 version, I gather. It's not free, but its definitely worth the 20 bucks or whatever it is.

I downloaded the 30 day trial of eyeconnect. Very simple setup indeed.

There are also two other alternatives... Twonky media, and Medialink.

I am going to try Medialink next, as I have a few gripes with eyeconnect, which would make it hard for me to part with hard earned for the complete version.

Ok , reason I ask is that I have the 60GB version and someone told me that it has more features ( Wireless connectivity for example ) , when I thought the difference was only the hard drive .... Is there a difference other than the harddrive size ....

I think (at least in the US) the non-40gb versions also have 4 USB ports as opposed to 2, and a memory card reader.

OK , so it is the backward compatibility to PS2 then ... I assume the 80 GB version will have this ability ( to play PS2 games ) , or we'll have a right mess

Im not going to get on with it, i can just tell. Honest to god, i am sick of basically all japanese development houses. They are too scared to innovate. DP, Namco, Sega, whatever. Maybe its in their culture not to mess with what they think is a winning formula.

I bought Ace combat for the 360 a few months back. Loaded it up. A bit prettier graphics, but everything else felt just the same as when i played the first ones back in the day about 10 years ago. Same with tekken, virtua fighter, ridge racer, and so on and so on.

I think other houses like the guys at Bizarre who did PGR, to take things to the next level... and then for Poly Digital to copy it in certain respects for GT prologue. And in the end, what the hell is GT Prologue doing out now, when the ps3 was released in november 2006? And its not even a full game. Sony dropped the ball massively there.

Wheres Killzone 2 i wonder? Anyone remember that amazing "gameplay video" that was shown about 3 years ago? Still not here in any shape or form. tut tut.

Buy motorstorm you'll love it, complete change to what you expect and I'm pretty sure it's rumble enabled

I haven't heard anything about that, but I highly doubt they'll be free on the PS3. It would be a pretty lousy business decision considering the player base.

nah, i played it in the shop and didnt like it. sure it was different and im sure its a nice game, just not my cup of tea.

for those with a 360, may i strongly strongly recommend you to download the trial version of Rez HD. I think its just super cool for an xbox arcade game. If you like the first level, download the whole game, it just gets better and better and to me, it looks stunning on a big screen HDTV.

i really like playing that!

bit off though - they had a competiton to see who design the best maps - then they go and charge for them!!

I don't think these maps are from that competition. Creek and Broadcast are campaign locations, and Chinatown is a remade map from one of the previous COD games, I think,
