Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Got Bioshock: Infinite in the mail on Saturday (even though I didn't think it was released until tomorrow).

It's...weird. Very un-Bioshocky--much lighter and brighter and no one is dead or wearing rabbit masks, and there are no Big Daddies or Little Sisters per se, which is a little disappointing. It's pretty graphics-wise, but almost Disney-ish.

The story is pretty detailed and the shooting is pretty easy--this from the girl who usually plays on easy and decided to go out on a limb and put it on normal, so I don't know what that means for real gamers...

All in all, my verdict: Entertaining. Which is really all a video game needs to be, right?

Last edited by Megsandbacon; 25.03.2013 at 19:32. Reason: Spelled it 'Bioschock' which, I guess, is the Germanized version

About to wrap up my COD:BO2, only one prestige to go and wondering what to play next... I am still playing Red Dead Redemption, BF3, Mafia II and even the latest GTA from time to time..
Heard lots about the Bioshock series, but while intrigued, I never picked it up - is the series worth it to play through? The storyline got lots of good reviews apparently..
Any other good games to recommend at the moment - any great co-op games out there?

I think we need to bear in mind that the original Bioshock and Bioshock:Infinite were made by the same software house and Bioshock 2 wasn't so there is a bit of a disconnect there in the middle.

I have to say it is one of the most incredible games I have ever played. The shooting mechanics are fine, not too different to the original, but the world is so lovingly crafted with so much detail that it is impossible not to get engrossed in it.

I think it is good the game is relatively easy (although the last battle took me a few goes) as it allows you to enjoy the scenery and storyline as you go. The enemies aren't as gruesome as the Rapture versions, but the storyline is certainly every bit as dark, if not more so, and the ending is magnificent.

I think what summed up the game's brilliance for me was the 'God only knows how I'd live without you' bit - if you've played it you'll know what I mean, if you haven't, it is a remarkable thing to find in a video game. I sat and watched the whole thing and I am sure you will too.

OOO been a while for this thread! Just got the plat for RE 6, much easier than RE5. Started up Max Payne, story looks very cool, and I love Rockstar games, but its kind of challenging and I'm only on chapter 3!

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

So, I think I have played through most games I like and am struggling to find any new ones on PS3 to play.

Ideally, I'd like to buy one soon, as softridge sent me a 10chf voucher to be redeemed by the middle of June!

I like RPG type games on the whole, but they can be fairly action based too (big fan of Bioshock for example, but played them all already).

Anyone uncovered any gems recently that might appeal? The last random game I found that was actually pretty good was Sleeping Dogs, would recommend that to anyone who hasn't played it yet.

I've heard good things about the new Tomb Raider and The Two of Us. I still have a whole bunch of things to finish before I consider buying any new ones. I'm currently stuck at mini bosses in Deus Ex and ME3, and haven't picked them up for ages.

Bumping this thread just to say how good The Last Of Us is. If you like the Uncharted series, survival horror, like games that feel like a movie or are a zombie aficionado you have to pick this up. One of the best games of this generation.

I think I might be going against the grain here, and I thought the start was spectacular, but once you get a few hours into the story, it has all gotten a bit samey samey for me.

Go into a new area, walk around quietly to see what sort of infected there are. Dispatch them. Move on.

I can't deny it looks amazing though.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

The Last of Us is slightly more on-rails than I would like yeah, but I don't mind on-rails when the quality of the storytelling is this good. It's basically movie quality and feels credible in a way games haven't until now. Stuff like the Metal Gear series and Heavy Rain, considered the apex a few years ago, seem positively amateurish by comparison.

Yes, I understand what you mean. The game does get a bit repetitive after a few hours, and in the end the gameplay is more or less like Uncharted, but then with zombies. But the subtle background music, the gritty atmosphere and the dynamics between Ellie and Joel add something truly unique to that imo

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I understand the repetitiveness of The Last of Us, but the game was so stressful! I was actually happy when I finally finished it. I've started a 2nd playthrough, and its interesting to listen to the dialogue, and see how their relationship grows. Lots of little things I didn't pick up on the first time.

And the music was absolutely amazing in this game.
