Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Right, i know i have been changing my mind several times on this thread (from about page 5 i think lol) but i cant take it any more......im buying a ps3 on saturday. (yes i will make sure its a 40/60 gig one)

I am still in 2 minds about it, but if i just buy the damn thing i can stop being a plonker about it all.

What i need now is the info regarding prices and bundles.

GTA4 is a must (i have withdraw symptoms) and so is Pro Evo.

I 100% do not want AC (as i have completed it and the game is not that long tbh), and i could do without GT5 (lame, i will wait for the full version).

My main port of call will be interdiscount, as i dont know of anywhere else that sells it........someone please feel free to enlighten me. Also their website does not seem to have any products listed wtf is up with that??

So to sum up:

Where to buy?
What bundles are available?
What should i not pay more than?
How much have i annoyed everyone on this thread?

Im sure i have forgotten something, so feel free to hit me up with any other important info that i might require!!!

Thankyou all kindly
Awaiting you wonderful replys

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

in terms of deals you are probably talking about saving 20 or 30 francs if you are lucky. Basically 649 chf without or between 645 and 700 with a game.

i think i saw a GTIV bundle somewhere so obviously go for that.

Agreed GET CALL OF DUTY 4, its my favourite game of all.

If you can wait til june they are likely to reveal a bundle with vibrating controller (currently does not vibrate) and metal gear solid, but unless you are dying for that game then i wouldnt bother to wait. the new bundle "might" have a 60 gb hard drive, its not for sure.

As for your question how much have you annoyed everyone, probably not at all.... unless you still dont buy it now, in which case I and several others will probably want to come over to your place and beat you up.

finally, you might want to preorder a few blu rays from amazon as generally cheaper than over here.

just buy it, dont prevaricate.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I think at the moment only the 40GB is available here... unless you have friends in places or somebody wants to get rid of his...

I got mine at Digitec at 550 - otherwise try Toppreise.ch for a store near you.. that's without games though.. Do check out the game stores (especially the one at Stadelhofen Bahnhof) as they already sell pre-owned games at good prices...

And yes (apart from GTA, we know it's good) I'd get Call of Duty as well. It's a bit short but worthwile (haven't been online yet).

Good hunting then!

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I tried Call of Duty and was not that impressed, felt like an PS2 game (general movement and gameplay), graphics wise was a let down. I 100% will not be making a purchase!!! I really dont see what the fuss is about, am i missing something??

I have just seen that Prince of Persia will be out later this year.......now that is a game i will be buying!!!!

I think that Ubisoft are really paving the future for game at the moment, they just need to get past the slow paced boring factor and i think they will really start stepping into next level territory!!! (i would mention Rockstar at this point but bar the GTA series, which is great, i dont think they have much else to shout about)

Anyone tried the new 'Tom Clanceys Rainbow Six Vegas Thingymagig' game yet?? Anygood??

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I'd just go for the GTA4 bundle which is already available, plus COD4.

As far as I've seen so far COD4 is the clear leader for PS3 online FPS. Motor Storm's a pretty good racer (much more hectic than your regular kind of racer), but MS2 is coming out soon so I'd hold off on that. The trailer I saw for MS2 looked amazing.

Speaking of trailers, has anybody downloaded the trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4? I watched it last night. Wow! Recommended.

I was also reading the other day that they're going to release a new HD version of Wipeout, available via the online shop only. Can't wait for that

so to answer a couple of points, call of duty online is really good fun, its a big part of the game. Cant understand why you didnt enjoy the game? Do you have a HD tele?

Tom Clanceys Vegas is ok, good fun to bash for some hours. Not the best game out there, but i picked it up cheap 2nd hand.

Are you sure you were playing COD4? I can't imagine anyone saying it looks like a PS2 game.... Maybe you were playing COD3, which really is a let down.

I got Rainbow Six Vegas, but not the new updated one, it was ok, but not as good as COD.

You might want to wait for the new Metal Gear Solid Bundle BTW.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

but are you sure it was COD4???? Modern warfare, not WWII?

Personally I think that the graphics in COD4 are completely superb, just incredible. Stuff like the sniper mission just blow me away completely. And online (on the 360 at least) is just the best thing since sliced bread.

The whole COD4 experience is just great in my opinion. Its so cinematic, exciting, well paced, it really is the only game of recent times that really draws me in to suspend my disbelief. And thats just the single player. The online component is SO WELL MADE its untrue, with all the perks and ability to climb up to higher ranks. Just amazing.

there are no 70 inch bravias available here, maybe he had a large rear projection telly rather than a flat screen? In which case, it all sounds fishy.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Possibly the best review I've read of it!

I started playing it again last night, I'd forgotten how much I love it! It's the best FPS shooter game I have ever played and very probably the best multiplayer game as well.

Unfortunately, the next CoD isn't gonna be made by Infinity Ward but to be honest, I think I'll stick with CoD4 anyways.

Just a quickie (said the prostitute to the vicar), i am going to be making a purchase tommorrow morning but i want to be 100% sure:

Will the console be in german or is there an option in the control panel to change it to english?

Will certain games be limited to german? what should i look out for? DE/E sign like on the dvds?

I would appreciate an answer before i go out tommorrow if possible.

Thanks alot

The console, be it the 360 or the ps3, can be set to any language. The games vary, however. COD4 for the 360 was German-only, so I had that imported, whereas GTA4 worked fine in English. I can't tell you if COD4 for the ps3 is english or not, sorry.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

yep, console settings definitely you can set to english. the playstation store (online place where you can download demos and buy things) will also be in english.

the software store under bahnhof stadelhofen should be able to help you out about game languages as i think they will let you spin the disc in the store first.

there is no hard and fast language rule.

make sure you get a HDMI cable to connect to your flat screen television.... this is NOT included in the box. you do not have to get a very expensive one, they will mostly all produce good quality.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

The PS3 online store seems to be dependent upon the country specified in the account registration e.g. that linked to a credit card. My PS3 is set to English but I have found no way to reset the store from German. The Xbox 360 store content descriptions are also all in German but the console English.

Game languages can be very hit and miss, some sites like wog.ch tend to be pretty much up to date regarding the languages on the disks but the language indicators on the back of disks are notoriously bad. Many will specify full german but will often have English on there (I think it is more of a reassurance for German speakers that they can switch the entire thing into German rather than getting the game home and not understanding the HUD or on screen text / audio etc).

EA games are bad for languages and the majority of EA games will only have German, Italian, French on them.

As a previous poster said, games stores are quite friendly and if you ask if you can test the language they will normally let you. Softridge have many English speaking customers (Stadelhofen and HB) and will normally know if a game is in English or not, if they don't they will fire it up on their test machine.

Media Markt and Interdiscount have also done this for me in the past, but often you need to prompt the salesman to reset the console language, as putting a game into a German language console and not getting a language selection is not an indication that the game will not play in English.

Many games now auto select the language based upon the system settings so you need to make sure they are changed to English from the start.

So, as long as we're on the topic, I'm considering picking up MGS4 in a week or so. Has anyone heard anything regarding the languages yet?
