Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Anyone who is a fan of quirky games, check out pixeljunk eden which is available for download as a demo or full version on the playstation network.

I really like to see some of the efforts that go into these games, I have enjoyed many of them on the xbox 360 so far (Rez HD being a shining example), and now the PSN is starting to catch up. Wipeout HD will be a PSN downloadable exclusive later this year.

Next firmware update should also see Life with Playstation, an interesting concept where real time weather is displayed on an image of planet earth, and you can find regional news by zooming in on different parts of the planet. Will be free and probably with us in the next two weeks.

Additionally, I have maybe said it before but will say it again... Little Big Planet is gonna be HUGE. this time next year, kids will have LBP lunchboxes, you mark my words.

Hi Gav,

I have a Netgear NV+

This runs slimserver (came with the box and the main reason for choosing this NAS).

I did search on the Playstation for 'mediaservers' under both Audio and video sections, but it found nothing. I did upgrade the firmware on the NAS recently and have not checked Slimserver since doing that so on my to-do list. But I think this will ony work for audio stuff.

I'll see what other 'add-ons' I can do on the NAS, maybe there is a solution there. Not a big priority for me as I have other solutions (TViX & Popcorn) for Video and not really interested in using the PS3 for audio (use slimserver devices). But if I can get it working on the PS3, I can give the popcorn to my brother....

Cheers
The Slimserver software has been renamed Squeezecenter as of release 7.0 and I don't know if the earlier releases supported uPnP.

I do know that uPnP serving was an option in 7.1 but I left it off as Twonkyvision works just fine to serve AV files to my PS3.

If your NAS supports Squeezeserver chances are that there is some sort of uPnP available for it. Probably built in or freely downloadable.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

the design aesthetic of LBP is simply wonderful.

but what will make it beyond massive is that it has an easy to use but very extensive level designer... therefore users can make their own levels and share them over the playstation network, thus limiting the game only to peoples imagination.

YES,
Looks Amazing,

On a different note, why do games cost so much more over here?
i mean in Uk Drakes fortune hit Platinum and is not 15 squid,
here it is still on 50 CHF mark!

crazy

makes sense to buy from play.com
i love internet

Great, most new releases now have region codes :-( I guess they're trying to artificially keep prices high in Europe that way. New PS3 releases cost 109 Fr. pretty much everywhere - that's simply insane.

Take a look at the new releases list over here:

http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/614-3608...719/games/ps3/

(click on the titles below "new and future releases").

DVDBoxOffice has a section that lists code-free PS3 games, but their number sure isn't growing very quickly:

*******s, how long before someone figures out how to get around that?

There's still Amazon UK, which works out cheaper than here, and should be the right region.

Amazon UK is fine - one just has to make sure the game + shipping & handling doesn't cost more than 65 Fr. or SPI will add 18 Fr. in customs declaration fees to the price tag starting in October.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Just to gloat, Sony World was in ZH a few days ago, and I stopped by during my lunch break. Lo and behold, LBP and Wipeout HD were both playable there. I spent most of my time with LBP, and was left looking forward to it even more. Wipeout seemed neat enough, but I'm not a big Wipeout fan or anything so I was more interested in LBP.

Just so you know, every PS3 game is region free. What languages the game is in varies, but any PS3 game can be played in any PS3. BR movies are oftentimes region locked though.
