any of you guys interested in demon soul? i found a US version in Fnac today (near rive in geneva)
I keep on hearing great things about Demon's Souls online and it sounds excellent, but man, I just don't have the time or patience for this game. I think it's just slightly beyond the limit of how hardcore I am as a gamer.

I'm impressed the Rive Fnac often has imports. I even saw a Blu-Ray Director's Cut of Watchmen imported from Canada there a while back. Mind you, I had already ordered it online way before, but it was good to see. Blu-Rays and PS3 games being region-free is a wonderful thing.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

is it just me or is the center channel mix (dialog) in cod mw2 not really loud enough. voices are not as clear as they should be. im talking the single player here.

it made me think i had screwed up my surround sound system, so i popped in uncharted 2, which I find to have a superlative surround sound mix, and voices were tremendously clear and defined.

EDIT: seems like not just me, some extra research on the internet suggests others have noticed this too, and apparently, there is very little center channel and no specific 5.1 mix standard applied.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Hi all, hoping someone can help me. My PS3 decided to play up yesterday and now wont recognise any discs that I put in. Seems to be a common problem and looks like my blu-ray drive has packed up !

Has had anyone had a similar problem (I have already tried the system restore and it didnt work) ? and had to contact Sony in Switzerland to get it fixed ?

Looks like I'll have to send it back to Sony, as its out of warranty it will probably cost.

Thanks in advance, CM

Yeah same thing happend to my PS3, was out of warranty so I had to get a new one. Have you tried putting in a normal DVD, because when my blueray player died the PS3 would play PS2 games and DVD's but not blueray discs.

You might need to reset your video settings. Try to hold the on/off button for 10 seconds until it beeps twice. That did the trick for me...

I guess you've tried something simple like a CD / DVD lens cleaner just in case.

When you write "wont recognise any discs", is it giving you an error message or just doing nothing at all and just sitting there? If you get an error message I guess you'd already heve googled it.

With my PS1 and 2 towards the end of their lives, I think the laser got out of aligment or something and so standing them on their side (or upside down) occasionally worked for a while.

If it is terminal I would investigate how much a new one is compared to what you originally paid for it and how much the repair cost is.
Is the PS3 inculded in any household insurance ?

Let us know what it costs you. A new 120GB PS3 cost from Digitec is 388CHF. Your old one is probably only 40/60/80 GB.

Thanks, looks like I'll take it back to the UK one weekend soon, cost is 80 pounds to have the blu-ray drive replaced with a 3 month warranty. Another possibility is exchange with Sony for a refurb at a cost of 144 pounds again with a 3 month warranty.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I'd try a lens cleaner first, always used to fix my PS2 when it had problems reading disks.

My PS3 hasn't had any problems yet.

PlayStation 3 'hacked' by iPhone cracker

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8478764.stm

A US hacker who gained notoriety for unlocking Apple's iPhone as a teenager has told BBC News that he has now hacked Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3). George Hotz said the hack, which could allow people to run pirated games or homemade software, took him five weeks.
He said he was still refining the technique but intended to post full details online soon.

I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. Almost 3 and a half years with no piracy whatsoever is a pretty good run, all things considered.

Has anyone here bought MAG ? how is it ? Is it an unorganised free-for-all or does a proper command structure materialise ?

Got this on the weekend... it definitely is quite different from CoD - good and bad.
The movements are a bit slower and seems just a little "heavier", the graphics just a little less pristine. But once you got a good team together, you can really get the game going... definitely will keep me occupied for some time to come...

I'm just wondering if you can only sign up for the one team or if you can add another character later on...

The real downside is also that without a good team, you might as well leave the game right away. Definitely a microphone and coordination required!

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I've heard good things about MAG. The whole command structure is apparently very well executed. It's definitely a slow burn, but once you get into it, go up the ranks, etc. it becomes quite rewarding.

I don't have time for it, unfortunately, but it seems like when it comes to the particular objectives the developers set for themselves with this game, the gamble paid off quite well.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

And some good news for PS3 owners:

The previously 360-exclusive GTA4 episodes are heading to the PS3 in late March:

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/106/1065007p1.html

And PS3 code was found in Mass Effect 2:

http://www.destructoid.com/ps3-code-...2-162338.phtml

What does this mean? Well, Bioware has been going multi-platform recently, so it's likely Mass Effect 2 will also be ported. Something similar previously happened with Bioshock. PS3 code was found in the original code, and months later a PS3 port was announced.

So unless you want Halo, there's not much to cry about cross-platform wise if you're a PS3 owner.
