And some good news for PS3 owners:

The previously 360-exclusive GTA4 episodes are heading to the PS3 in late March:

http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/106/1065007p1.html

So unless you want Halo, there's not much to cry about cross-platform wise if you're a PS3 owner.
Cheers for that info Russkov.
The GTA series was started on PS and PS2 so when I saw GTA4 Liberty episodes/stories advertised only for X-Box, I was surprised that the developers had turned their backs on their home platform.

I wasn't that impressed with GTA4, its characters, story developement, or music compared to the more cartoony but engaging GTA San Andreas (I've bought it three times) but the adverts for this release looks a bit more promising.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

For those of you who like some originality in their gaming, and maybe are also fans of the film se7en, check out a new title called Heavy Rain.

There is a free demo available on the playstation network... definitely worth a download!!!

Anyone else excited about this one?

Oh yeah, it looks great. First sale on Play.com where it's under 30 pounds and it's mine.

The demo was interesting, but it feels like a game that might crumble under the weight of its own ambition. It gives you so many possibilities, that you start focusing more on what you can't do. Still, I enjoyed the story, and can't wait to play more.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Heavy Rain on amazon.co.uk is 37 gbp plus postage but when they deliver to switzerland they take off the VAT so its 32 plus 4 postage = 36gbp total delivered.... not bad i think! just placed my order.

i think the german version is censored (heavy rain has some fairly adult content), so you might definitely want to get the UK one....

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Anyone else got Bioshock 2?

Am about 3 or 4 hours into it and loving it - just as engaging as the first game and being able to combine weapons and plasmids is awesome!

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

I bought bioshock on your advice and enjoyed what i played of it, but a few games give me motion sickness and this was one, possibly because so many of the environments are quite dark. hence i wont get the sequel. still have assasins creed II in mind though, maybe i need a lend.

I have, but it has to wait.

I also got Assasins Creed 2 in the same package, I gave it a go first and got hooked. I really disliked the first one and gave up halfway through, bored, this one is a lot more fun.

Looking forward to playing Bioshock 2 once I complete AC2, I really enjoyed the first one.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

i've just got my hands on a PS3, which i bought back from australia.

trying to figure out how to get online without a long ethernet cable from one room to the next so i ordered a powerline unit, lets see how it goes,

got a few games but they were bundled so no new releases.

valkyria chronicles lots interesting as a mix of 1st person and strategy,
genji, i have had on for 5 minutes, when i feel like button bashing it might get another go.
brothers in arms hells highways and MGS4 both untouched as yet.
but im currently ingrossed in AC:for answer.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Have to recommend Valkyria L&F, good cell shaded, semi turn-based strategy game, with an interesting storyline - actually seems to be more or less based on Switzerland during WW2!

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Anyone with an older (non-Slim) PS3, do yourself a favour and DON'T turn on your PS3 and try to play any games on it today!

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/28/ps...ashing-errors/
Quote:
A wide rash of game-crashing errors is spreading among the PS3-owning community at the moment, most of which can be chalked up to a 8001050F error code. This has led to a variety of unfortunate side-effects for those affected, including corrupted trophy information and an inability to access the PSN. When combined, those two issues prevent players from launching certain games, such as Heavy Rain, without being kicked back to the XMB.

We've contacted Sony to find out what's causing the issue, and when we can expect to get back to chasing down the Origami Killer. He might just be able to make a clean getaway while we suffer through this downtime.

Update: Sony has acknowledged the issue, and is "looking into it." We've yet to hear an official word on what the problem is, though it seems to be a bit larger than just the PSN. Owners of PS3 Phats are reporting that the date on their console has reverted to 12/31/1999, which is likely the cause of the data-corrupting errors. Some Phat-owners have reported receiving the errors while their console was offline, which is upsetting, to say the least. We'll let you know when we hear official word from Sony.
I was in the process of beating the final boss in Uncharted on Crushing to finally get my Platinum when my system clock reset and Uncharted trophies got erased. Good times.

PS3s getting the error code won't connect to PSN anymore. If it's an issue with the actual firmware being incapable of connecting, Sony can't really fix it from their end. Most people would be able to apply the firmware update after downloading it on their computers and applying byUSB key, but for those who aren't tech savvy, they'll find themselves unable to ever connect to the internet again and not understand why. Even being optimistic, that's 5-10% of owners. Kind of a disaster.

If this does pan out that way, expect to see Sony set up a RRoD-like support line and be sending out USB keys and CDs en masse to people to fix this. What a PR nightmare.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Completed the story on Assasins Creed II over last week, excellent game, but left me wanting more, obviously leaving it wide open for III. It also had some rather sneaky upselling I thought, to complete the storyline you need to purchase an additional 2 episodes.

Bioshock 2 now, and Heavy Rain is in the post.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Heavy rain arrived in the post today, but i dare not turn it on due to the PSN problems being reported (although i have a ps3 slim).

Apparently, latest info is that it is related to the date changing from feb to march and that the code on original ps3 processors doesnt have the code for a leap year!

hope it gets sorted out soon.

You sound uncannily like Bobby Ball (from Cannon and Ball comedy double act) he said he was a fan of Assasin's Creed 2 on the radio the other day. Surreal.

But this isn't a leap year and there was no problem two years ago.
I started a new game yesterday and was prompted for a system update that took 10 minutes, maybe this was a fix ????

Yeah it's weird, but it's almost certain now that it was the change from Feb 28th to March 1st that caused the problem, so it must be some kind of a factor.
