As regards ME2, are you suggesting there are more RPG elements than i have seen? Levelling up, doing quests for people etc?
Not so much levelling up, but you can upgrade your character and your team-members after earning points from successful completion of missions. You can also upgrade your gear with schematics and weapons you pick up, and minerals mined from planets. Aside from the main story, there are side-missions picked up when scanning planets for minerals, for each mission (story and side) you can pick 2 team-members from your assembled crew.

Whilst we're on the subject of "currently playing", I'm still working my way through AC, is it me or is just a little bit repetitive? Go to x town, pick up clues from various people, rescue citizens, climb towers, pick up flags, kill the boss. Rinse and repeat. Do I get the chance to upgrade my gear at any stage, or collect money? It all seems a bit dry.
My kids jumped the gun and have completed ACII (and started Brotherhood) and from what I've seen, both games seem far more polished and varied.
Also fired up Deep Space 2 and Arkham Asylum and enjoying both, although DS2 is pretty gruesome and I can only play it when the family has gone to bed and the lights are off .
As I said, also started Two Worlds 2, but I always take a while to get into RPGs.

At the time, AC was pretty revolutionary, but if it was possible to criticise, then yes, the repetition could get a bit much.

The 2 newer versions, esp AC2:Bro, have much more varied missions, weapons, armour etc - just try and enjoy ACC1 for the storyline now and the entry into the further AC universe, gameplay really picks up in AC2. The locations are even more magnificent in AC2 (my fav) and Brotherhood - cannot wait for the 4th installment!

That's why I'm sticking with it, for the story. I was quite disappointed I didn't "win" anything for saving all the citizens etc. Seemed a little pointless after a while. I've only got 90+ Jeruslaem flags to collect and 50-odd Templars still to kill .

ACI = groundbreaking (except that there are no trophies, which considering the days i put in searching for flags etc... was rather annoying)

ACII = ACI but polished

ACB = ACII on crack (except multiplayer which imo is lame, but most seem to like it)

ACIII = I bloody hope they do england/france around Robin Hood times. If they start coming into the future more, guns will start being much more of an issue, as has already begun in ACB. I think it wont be long before they do a full game set in the present with Desmond as the main 'assasin'. Not sure if modern buildings/citys will lend itself to the AC style of gameplay, unless Desmond turns into the dude from Prototype.

DS2 = your a braver man than me, after playing DS1 on a friends PS3 and also trying the demo of DS2 i am far to much of a pussy to buy it.

Arkham Asylum = really enjoyed that, i pre-ordered Arkham City.

I recently got 'Flower' from the PS store..........different, but rather satisfying.

Finished James Bond: Blood Stone, not bad overall, passed the time........online is lame though.

Currently waiting for Need For Speed Shift 2 and Tiger Woods 12.

Just seen 'Homefront' on play.com, anyone played this????

I am going to have another games clearout soon, lots to sell, will keep you guys informed.

cheers

I read a review of Homefront, basically said it was OK, but nothing ground-breaking, just a generic CoD clone. Played the Killzone 3 demo, which was quite good, but I can't get used to shooters with a PS3 controller, having spent so many years on a mouse+keyboard combo. Was tempted to pck up a Move controller .
LA Noire looks very cool, out in May I think.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Looking Forward to:

Deadly Decents
Mortal Kombat

Anyone tried Dragon Age 2?
I played the first one, but gave up right before the end, the interface for a console was a little shabby i think.

Also DS2, Need to order that, First one was intense, but playing it alone in the dark.... Not sure about that.

I need a decent shooter. Was rather disappointed with Black Ops. Multiplayer is so average, and as for the solo play........INFINATE SPAWNING IS SO 90's, really spoiled the game. I was thinking about trying out Battlefield II, but im not sure my brain could handle the button changes after so many years of COD.

Anyone know if i can customize the button layout on Battlefield to be the same as COD????

Yeah, been watching the vids on youtube. I am still undecided as it seems like Rockstar have just copied Mafia II.

I did not really enjoy Red Dead Redemption, so i might give it a miss.......maybe when the price drop comes i will make a purchase.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Thanks for the Mass Effect 2 advice - went out and bought it, and it's great.

Next question. I got a new Bravia, which almost as a side-effect supports 3D. I've played one of the downloaded games, Super Stardust HD which has a 3D mode which is good fun, but nothing too amazing. Anyone had any experience with 3D gaming? Which games do you recommend, how much (if at all) does it improve your gaming experience?

Good one there mate.
I am completely with you on the loud part.

However, I like the game, if only for its different than usual skill shot system. Makes an otherwise mundane FPS game, fun to play.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Keen readers may know that I like the somewhat esoteric and original offerings sometimes found on the PSNetwork and Xbox live.

The guys who made Flower will in the next few months release their next game called Journey, about a nomad making his way through a desert towards some mountain in the distance. The trailer looks very interesting, and i will buy it as soon as it comes out.

Also Child of Eden, which is more or less a follow up to Rez HD. A little hard to explain this game, but on xbox at least it might or probably will be the reason why i buy Kinect. Child of Eden is out in June for both xbox and ps3.

It is worth pointing out that the newer black xbox is way quieter than the first gen 360. I would often rant about the noise levels of the first one myself. Im more than happy with the latest one from that point of view, but simply use my ps3 much more as i find it a far better all round media device, especially because i am a fan of blu ray. So far, the black xbox 360 also "seems" to be much more stable. I had RROD 3x on the first gen one.

As I was saying to StirB recently though, Red Dead Redemption is certainly in my top three full price retail games of the last few years..... incredible attention to detail and so much work went into this game, and it produces a tremendously fun story to play through. I really hope that a sequel is in the works.

As for the PS4, i think its going to be a long long wait. Its certainly true that the upgrade cycle for consoles has slowed down now. With still strong sales of PS2 (something i still marvel at), and no real impetus to upgrade the ps3, I think its going to be 2014 at the earliest before we see PS4. Of course, if Microsoft decide to release what is being called the Xbox 720, this might change... but recently MS said that they see things like Kinect as prolonging the upgrade cycle so I cannot see a completely new console in the short term from them either. There is also a train of thought that the 360 release was such a catastrophe with so many console failures, that they might prefer not to release a new console at any point at all.

I second what you say about Flower...very interesting game.

And I also look out for off-beat/Indie games on XBL usually.
Found some real gems like Zombie Apocalypse, Shadow Complex etc...

And same goes for the PC with games like Flow, Crimsonland, Star Defender et al...which come from lesser known developers but are a lot of fun.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Thanks Ashishshah,

I know that this isnt the correct thread, but as you seem also to have both consoles i strongly recommend you to check out Rez HD available on Xbox live, and also Limbo. Limbo is a platformer but the visuals are very special as is the atmosphere created. I think that so far XBL has had the edge on such cut price downloadable games but that PSN is starting to catch up.

Honestly what I have found is that I prefer a game like Flower on PSN to a lot of full price retail games like GT5 which took years and a lot of millions to make.

On the other hand, I really think that these last few years have been a golden age for gaming again, with the advent of very cool indie style downloadable console games, alongside some superbly produced full price titles like red dead that i have already mentioned, and the uncharted games and the call of duties and what not. I think that pretty much started for me on launch day of the 360, seemlessly playing project gotham racing online with a bunch of others, and watching the nice smoke grenade effects in Call of Duty. Ahhh, happy days.

with some great full price titles.
Right back at you.

Yeah, maybe not the right thread, but still relevant.

And the thing with these small indie titles is that you always find something interesting in them. Since they are not by well known developers and dont have an already established fan-base, the developers make an extra effort to make things really fun to play.

Limbo, like you mention, is quite simplistic, but very very good looking. Same goes for games like Shank, which is also a simple side scroller, but with different visuals and control schemes which make them fun to play.
Another game which comes to mind is Magicka, which I think is on the PC but then again very fun. And Trine, and so on.

And red dead, oh, don't get me started on that. I have roamed the west for days looking for that particular type of flower or that mystical creature. And spent many anxious nights fighting the undead. Good times indeed...

IMHO, and I sure I will be scorned on this, I find that the range of titles on the 360 and the XBL are better. Halo, GoW etc...are all a lot of fun and established franchises which have developers behind who make an effort to push the envelope (atleast thats what I can surely say for Bungie).

And as for the visuals, they have gone from being close to realistic to being simply stunning.

Dude, have you tried amazon.co.uk for all the games you order? Seriously, it's worth it. The price is either cheaper (with no VAT, taken off at the check-out) or the same as play.com, and you get 2-day UPS shipping. I haven't looked back.

I have thought about it, but amazon also sells alot of other great things. I would just end up buying crap i dont need........hence i no longer go on ebay.
