Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Hi all

Just recently invested in a PS3, bought in the UK through a really great deal at Tesco. I've bought a few games, GT5, FIFA11, Red Dead, Uncharted 2, LBP2, Beatles Rock Band, but so far have spent most of my time playing Multiplayer Killzone3 with the Sharpshooter, which is an excellent add-on to FPS games - it makes it feel much more immersive and accurate IMO, once you get used to it and have tweaked the sensitivity settings. I've also played a bit in 3D, but not enough to comment on it's value just yet.

One question I do have, regarding the PSN account, is that I set it up with my UK address, as I'll probably be buying most games from there and so was concerned about and DLC issues. Is there any drawback with this? Mostly everything seems to be working fine so far, although I wasn't expecting iPlayer & similar to work anyway. I've downloaded some demos and preview videos and used Vidzone without a problem. I have gone back a few pages, but this is a massive thread, so forgive me if answered previously. I have had my PS3 about a month, so don't know if it cottons on after a while?

By the way, my PSN is Whitters1uk, so please feel free to add me!

If you're using a UK credit card, you'll still be able to buy games from the UK store, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure if they check IP addresses when it comes to downloading DLC, I just think the tricky thing is being able to pay for it with a local credit card. Once you start downloading Swiss DLC for UK games, it gets more complicated, and you should check on a case-by-case basis, though I believe it's still compatible most of the time.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

Quick question on switching controllers. Was playing last night and my controller ran out of juice, so plugged it in and got out my other. Problem was, I couldn't control the game from the 2nd controller, it would only respond the one charging. Am I missing something obvious?

Yes.

Hold down the PS button on the first controller and turn it off, or reassign it.
Reassign second one, or turn it off and on again.

I really, really liked the Tank Girl movie. I found Lori Petty strangely alluring in the title role

Sometimes it seems you also need to use the cable to plug controller 2 into the PS3 in order to get the correct connection, from there you can press the PS button and do what Cyrus said - i've had a bit of bother with this before, bit of a lottery, but this always seems to fix it.

Hitting the PS button also allows you to assign the slot number for the controller you're using. There's a lot of jiggery pokery but eventually you can get an alternative controller workibg without switching off the other one.

Except, as if in the case above, the original controller is out of battery!!

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

As I mentioned above, I have a UK account, so apps like Mubi, iPlayer and (I assume) LoveFilm are disabled. If I were to set up an alternative Swiss account, are there any apps like those above that are available?

Great. I loved the first Shift game. However the reviews on Amazon.co.uk are a bit niggly complaining that the game's good but the cars are incredibbly difficult to control (even in a straight line) unless you have a sterring wheel controller.
Your thought Swiss Cheddar? Did you play Shift#1? What's it like versus the first Shift?
I bought NFS Hot Pursuit and it really is just awful with really terrible arcade like lack of handling. Almost as unenjoyable as Ridge Racer 7.

Cheers,
HB
