Aye, I've always been a PC FPS player, so I think my machine might need a MB/CPU/GFX/RAM upgrade.

For FPS PC is is the best way to go. The hardware is always the drawback, but if you design your PC properly, it should do well for quite some time. A good GPU will take you far, I still use my 4 year old vid card and it handles top settings in Crysis 2....barely, but yeah.

I currently have a Core2duo E8400, 4GB RAM and an ATI EAH5850. Also running a 64GB SSD as part of a dual for Windows 7 64bit and the games I play the most. Plays Black Ops and BFBC geberally OK, but can stutter at times, especially when 1st logging into a BFBC2 battle.

That should be pretty solid for gaming from my quick look. You GPU blows mine out of the water, I run a faster cpu and more ram, but that's definitely not my bottleneck.

Black Ops has had a bunch of issues with choppiness on PCs, but from what I gather, it has been a software issue.

Your rig should compete well for sometime, and definitely dominate the sad state of Console gaming at the moment......but I guess this is the wrong thread for these details.

Good point, back to PS3 eh?
I haven't actually logged onto my PS3 for a few days, too much nice weather, too many "acquired" TV shows to watch.

Got my "valued customer" mail too.

Next year the new Nintendo console will be available, time to ditch Sony.

In all fairness, I have a good feeling Nintendo and Microsoft will also screw up at some point. But Sony really screwed up on this one---I've always been anti-console my whole life, just pay attention because the consoles influence the software developers so much. Finally I have a reason to be happy I've stayed with PCing.
(I was very close this summer to picking up a PS3)

I'm annoyed that the consoles have moved more to the PC model, with constant updates required before you're even allowed to start your game.

Still, I bought the console near 5 years ago, and not had to upgrade a processor, motherboard, ram, or GPU yet to play the latest games. Yet the quality of the games still keep improving. (alright, I need a new HDD)

It is quite the acomplishment for the game developers to continue to make improved games on such old hardware.

Usually the turnover for the consoles IS 5 years, but this time around they seem to have still have some more tricks up their sleeves to get better products out of the exisiting consoles. Both Sony and Microsoft are apparently going to wait another 5 or so years before bringing something new out.

On the other hand, the few studio games that have actually taken some time (and money) to develop for the newest available hardware, have been able to put out some products that make console games really look like garbage. Unfortunately, you do of course have to spend the time and money to make the machine to appreciate it.

Re: [General discussion of] PS3

lol @ the 'camp' jokes

My email begins with an 's'

Surely it cant take that long to email everyone?? its not as if they are doing the emails one by one.

I read that in japan people are starting to have access to the PSN, hopefully we will be up and running by the weekend.

There has been talk of free stuff from sony including free playstation-plus for a month when the psn is back online.

Can anyone clearly explain what 'playstaion plus' is?? I always see the +plus stuff in the PS-store but its all in German and have no clue what its all about.

cheers

Re: Ps3

Lack of Legendary games (Like MGS4 and GoW) and the infinite amount of FPS on it killed the console for me as I hate FPS to death.
