post #432 gives a good link to the overview of payment modalities/rates.
Hmm now is it worth jailbreaking my iPhone and iPad so I can tether them instead of paying at least 19 fr/month on top of my data?

You only need to jailbreak your iPhone, the way it works is that your iPhone becomes a Wifi access point for the iPad. However if you do go down that route you will need something like a battery backup sleeve for the iPhone because the battery won't last long.

I wouldn't plan on doing serious browsing, just a quick connection to refresh my instapaper, twitter and email. I'd use wifi for in the home browsing which would be 75% of it's purpose.

The wifi issues really are the last nail in the coffin for me. Browsing on 3G is a last resort for me. 3G just simply isn't quick enough for me to stay sane.

The wifi issues are being addressed:

And if none of those fixes work, there is always the excellent Apple Store and their no quibble exchange program.

That's a poor second though really. If I buy something that should connect to wifi then it should connect seamlessly. I will take the nail out when the issues are resolved.

The overwhelming majority of people haven't had any issues, which points to either a faulty batch or differences in the types of wifi routers people are using. Either way the issue is resolvable, so I wouldn't let that put you off.

I've used the thing all over Switzerland and haven't been experiencing any kind of wifi trouble.

Looks like the shipping date has quietly been shifted to the 7th June.

Re: The Apple iPad

Anyone know if you can pick one up at the Apple Store in Zürich on launch day? Do they have a waiting list?

The June 7th shipping date I would presume is for new orders.

Re: The Apple iPad

Hmm, I love, love, LOVE my Iphone (and it's only the 3G) but I don't really see the point in getting an Ipad. Phone is good enough to do most basic things and if I need more I get on the laptop. However I could see its usefulness for say, a business person not wanting to carry around a laptop, or a college student, etc.

Early online orders still ship for 28th May, any new orders are shipped at the later date

Re: The Apple iPad

If you intend getting an iPad for watching videos, ensure you see a Demo before buying it. I was quite disappointed with the picture quality ...

Reading an online newpaper is awesome and so too is emailing. Nice big virtual keyboard which reduces typos - if you have pudgy fingers i.e.

Just got an email to say that my order has been dispatched, however the delivery date is estimated to be 28th May. I'm guessing that the courier (TNT) will hold onto them until release day

My email said that it will arrive no later than the 28th. Frankly, I'm not expecting it any earlier... but it'd certainly be nice.

Re: The Apple iPad

Got a shipping notification yesterday, shipping by TNT. No movement on the tracking number yet, although that's not too surprising - they seem to send "Dispatched" mail when the package is processed and ready to go, not when it's actually picked up, and there'll be palletloads of identical packages leaving over the next day or two.

It'll probably arrive before the 28th at this rate - I don't think they worry so much about things arriving early, and I don't think TNT are likely to do a "please leave in local warehouse for days before delivering" service anyway..

(I had stuff delivered by carriers in the UK who seemed to leave stuff in their local warehouse for a couple of days before delivering it as a standard no-extra-cost feature, mind. In Switzerland the danger is that stuff arrives days before I was expecting it - when we ordered a new iMac a couple of months ago it left the distribution centre in the Netherlands at 6pm on day 1, and I missed the delivery attempt that was made in Zürich at 2:30pm the next day.)

I got the 32GB wifi and a case. I decided against a 3G ipad since I can tether to my iphone using Mywi and the benefit is that I only need the one data contract. I also figure that the next entry level iPad will probably have 3G so this set-up should keep me going until then.

Wifi Ipad (using Mywi) v Ipad 3G
