| | Re: The Apple iPad | Quote: | | | | As regards the 3G version, perhaps i've been lucky, but i've always managed to connect to a wifi source (in zurich) using Boingo so far (8 dollars a month), even hotspots not registered as Boingo ones! | | | | | Boingo looks good. Thanks!

Just looking at the Boingo service, which seems very promising...
Does anyone know if I could have one Boingo subscription but use it on more than one device, so I could connect with either an iPod Touch or iPad? Is it just a user name and login that can be set up on any device, or is it fixed to just one device somehow?
Thanks.

kodokan | | | | | Yes, I wondered this. Their 'mobile' service is good value at $7.95 a month whereas their laptop + mobile global service is a staggering $59 a month.
Presumably you could simply buy the $7.95 service and then tether though?

Quick Q, apologies if it has been asked / answered before...
I closed my UK bank account the other month and also got rid of the associated credit card. This means I had to set up a new Swiss iTunes store account - BUT - my UK one is still active, albeit without a valid payment option.
I am concerned that the stuff i'm going to want to dload for the iPad will be UK based magazines etc etc and that isn't going to be available on the Swiss store. Is there some way I can buy credit / vouchers for the UK store and load my account there like that?
Thanks,
StirB

As regards Boingo - i believe you can use iPhone/iPad on one Boingo (mobile) account - but if you try using a laptop it won't work.
Similarly, if you have a laptop account and sign in to it on another device, then you get charged a double subscription.

It seems they send you a physical card with a code on it. Is it possible to cut out the middle man (postman) and just get the code direct?

Your difficulty would be doing this without a UK payment method. Just stock up on your next trip back? Maybe you can use iTunes gift cards bought in Switzerland? I haven't tried this yet . . .

kodokan | | | | | Boingo does detect the device, ie laptop or ipod and therefore I had a pay as you go solution with the laptop and a mobile solution with the iphone. Would it differentiate between an ipad and itouch? However I received a mail from Boingo a few weeks ago saying that they were going to combine the accounts. Since then I haven't used Boingo so I am not sure where I am on this.

I'd also be interested in Boingo, however I would like to know just how well affiliated they are with other hotspot providers. As part of my Orange Optima package I'm supposed to have access to 1000s of hotspots worldwide, but I've only ever managed to find one hotspot in Stockholm where my Orange.ch credentials were accepted.

I would have thought that Orange would have made this more available / known (?) to counter Swisscom's ubiquity in Switzerland.
"More Hotspots outside Switzerland" or something like that.
Then again maybe they make too much money on 3G data roaming to make access to wifi too easy.

That would be terrific if we can just pay one sub and share it between my iPod, hubby's iPod and the communal iPad (not all at the same time, of course).

Is there someone in the UK who can buy you a card and read the number over the phone? Or you can probably get them on Ebay, you can the US dollar ones.
It'll be interesting if the Swiss you can send the UK you a gift, let us know if that works as we could use that with a US/UK account combo. And yes, there's tons more useful content on the UK store than the Swiss one (except Zattoo, which annoyingly isn't on the UK one).
BIG plug for the fabulous Times app for the iPad - completely brilliant for £9.99 a month. Just waiting on the Sunday Times one now; I emailed them to ask when but they're being coy about timescales.

Does anyone know what the waiting time for an iPAD is in the Apple store in Zurich?

Those of you who have bought your iPads. What cases are you using, if any?

I'd say it's a 'must have' - I can't imagine how I'd use mine without it.
