Thanks for your advice. I'm an average user and if you're all fine without the anti-virus I'll be fine too.

I just can't get my head around the 'why' - why do viruses infect PCs but not Macs? I guess I'd have to dig into computer sciences to understand it properly. *shudder*
Operating system ??
dunno.... but I dislike Mac, prefer my PC any day

I don't use one. When I converted I tried to find an anti-virus but the results I found were that Macs don't need them because hackers and viruses are built for PCs.

As Mac users we are special and elite.

hackers and viruses are built for maximum effect, which will be to the widest audience, which will be PC's currently. I dont think it will be mac's in the desktop PC sense ever really.

Mobile virus's though, now thats a different matter. With windows phone having 1% of the market and apple having a decent share, then there really is motivation to write mac viruses for mobile computing and this will be an interesting battleground in the coming years. Apple control things microscopically through the app store but AV vendors think the coming years will test apple's defences against virus attacks which have blightest the PC landscape previously.
