Cheap Flight New Zealand - Help Wanted

Hi,

I am planning a holiday to new zealand in october and wanted to know any cheap flight websites and agents in zurich that might give me best price. so far most are very expensive - about 900 GBP or around 1300 euro min. and thats flying from london.

I managed to find http://www.cheapestflights.co.uk which have london to auckland for 605 GBP which sounds good, but then i obv. have to get to london and add that cost - not cheap from zurich!

I had thought from adverts back in uk couple of years ago that the standard NZ price is about 600/650 GBP.

Any help greatly appreciated, SJ.

Re: Cheap Flight New Zealand - Help Wanted

Swiss travel agents and websites are quoting you flight prices in GBP or EUR? Now that does sound very odd...

I usually use www.polyglott.ch who specialise in travel to that part of the world.

Don't expect to pay the type of prices you saw advertised in London a few years ago. If you really want to save money then fly with someone like Air China. I did this once and will never do so again.

Expect to pay around CHF2000 for a destination like Sydney, could be more going to NZ.

Last trip home was the Autumn holidays (end of Sept thru till end of October), three years ago. I booked it with the local Travel agency here in my local village... Globetrotters is another agency we have used, which have branches throughtout Switzerland.

We flew Malaysian airlines (great service, no complaints whatsoever) from Zurich ,,stopped over in Kuala Lumpar, midday meal and room included in the price. The airport there is all new, very calm and very well organized. Then onto N.Z..

Flew economy class and it cost me then 1.600 SFs. Try to find the off peak season to fly, school holiday times are always much more expensive

Hope this helps.

Re: Cheap Flight New Zealand - Help Wanted

Be aware that ZRH - NZ is the flight from hell. It's well over 30 hours of travel. Also, the connections aren't always that great.

For example:
Zurich - Singapore: 11.5 hours ish
Waiting time in Singapore: 12 hours. There is a possible connection at 1.5 hours, but it's a massive risk... what happens if your flight is an hour late leaving Zurich? Also, it's very possible that they may not let you board the second flight if you're not at the gate 30 mins before departure...
Singapore - Auckland: 10 hours

Your trip also needs to be long enough to make the physical discomfort of travel and the jet lag (currently 10 hour time difference) worth it.

Actually, Emirates looks better, timewise...

Zurich - Dubai: 6:10 hours
Waiting time in Dubai: 3:45 hours
Dubai - Auckland: 16.5 hours, with a 1:45 hour wait in Mebourne.

We fly to Melbourne quite a few times and have had 1.5 hours wait in Singapore. Singapore airlines are pretty organised and there's been times that they've waited for us. I've never gotten the impression that they won't let you in if you're not at the gate 30mins before.

If you want to break your journey, stay the night at Singapore or Malaysia (if you're with Malaysia airlines). For stop-overs malaysia airlines usually do include a free trip within malaysia but most travel agents here don't know about that. It's best to book from the MAS offices directly. Taking a short 1-2 day beach holiday in Penang or Langkawi can't be so bad.

agree... I've had the misfortune of leaving zrh to Melbourne 2-3 hours late on a couple of time and panicking... when I got to the otherside the ground staff got me on one of those golf cartie thingies and whisked me straight to the gate... felt like a rock star

Re: Cheap Flight New Zealand - Help Wanted

go to ebookers.com. Found one for GBP for 860.- (all included ) which goes with Singapore air (1 stop Singapore) , another for GBP 1800 which goes via Los Angeles (Swiss and then NZ Air, also one stop in LAX).

Its my favourite flight site ... let me know if you like it!!

Lisa

(I put in 9 June returning 23 July ZH - Auckland I person)

Re: Cheap Flight New Zealand - Help Wanted

Try Austrian. I recently flew Zürich/Vienna/Syndey/Auckland, with most stops under an hour. The longest stop was in Sydney on the way back, which was about two hours. The Vienna / Sydney leg includes a 45min stop in Kuala Lumpur, which gives you time to get off the plane, then join the queue to get on it again.

I did hear however, that the Austria to Australia flights (OS1 and OS2) may not continue for much longer.

I booked with ebookers and got it for about EUR 1100.

PS another tip - try ebookers.ch and ebookers.at and ebookers.de, even for the same trip. The prices are usually different, event though the journey always starts in Zürich. As usual, .ch seems to be the most expensive.

As this isn't about travel in Switzerland, I'm moving this thread to the off-topic section.
