Re: Progressive rock music - suggestions thread

Back in the days I also listened to BAUHAUS but I'm guessing that they are not considered PROG ROCK.

Personally I detest classifying music and listen to bands whose music is unclassifiable - like FANTOMAS.

Re: Progressive rock music - suggestions thread

There are a lot of bands that you could class as progressive rock which defy a label:

Anathema
Darkroom
God is an Astronaut
No-Man
Nosound
Sigur Ros

You're unlikely to see a Greatest Hits compilation in your local Media Markt CD collection however.

The best prog bands of the last 10/15 years are for sure from Japan try some of these -

Boris (arguably the best rock band in the world at the moment)
Ghost
Acid Mothers Temple
High Rise (more metal/heavy)
Boredoms (insane prog/punk/ethno mix)
Ruins

These bands will blow your mind
Yeah, these are fun. Although Boris gets a bit...repetitive, after a while .

And nobody mentioned Can...ooooh

I love this tune, so clean and pretty, my absolute firstest bass line I taught myself:

Hawkwind, Tangerine Dream and Amon DüÜl II kick ass, yo.
And then pretty much anything on Constellation records, they are interesting.

Re: Progressive rock music - suggestions thread

I'm not really a big fan of prog rock, but I will listen to Hawkwind at one end and Deerhoof or Battles at the other.

From one of my earlier posts. Barclay James Harvest are currently in three variations. Here they are for comparison.

For me, John Lees is the vocal sound of BJH

Close ties to the UK and the fact that they think that they can sing English accent free (not exactly true, it makes me cringe sometimes....)

Did anyone mention Mike Oldfield?

BTW - I'm very surprised that someone included Black Dice as prog.

Re: Progressive rock music - suggestions thread

All piffling choices. To be a true prog fan you must have The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony by Dave Greenslade and Patrick Woodroffe - original vinyl issue with the book (i.e. not the CD reissue)?

Cheers,
Nick

Fair enough.

I actually prefer stuff like Black Dice to most prog. Saw them live once.
