I'd love to do a southern route, but the wife would have my guts for garters.
Been there, done that many times, enjoy...

| | Re: Drive to Gambia | Quote: | | | | | How much $ in speed fines | | | | | ZERO my friend...well, at least none on the highway (I probably drove too fast for them to even bother). Hehehe, ok...this is a true story....:
I finished my schooling in Canada and I decided to go to Kentucky to further educate myself. It was Spring Break..and prior to lunch, I had a ***ual encounter with a Japanese exchange student that worked at Taco Bell on campus. After the deed, I went for lunch and met my friend Thomas. Thomas is originally from Detroit and he told me that he's going up to see his family. I asked him if I could hitch a ride and we would split gas money....he agreed. We'd meet in 2 hours at my place. After lunch, I proceeded to go home and met Jose...he didn't have plans and I asked him whether he wants to come to Canada with me. He agree. I called Thomas to see if that's alright with him...and he said no problem. So I rushed home...threw some clothes in a garbage bag and met up with Thomas and Jose downstairs. To my surprise I saw that Jose had also a pair of Samsonites (garbage bags with him).
Thomas knew that I had a heavy foot and he siggested that I drive. I called an old budy of mine , Fadi who lives in Detroit, and asked him whether we could stay at his place for the evening..and that we would venture off to Canada the next day....he agreed. So I made it to Detroit in a jiffy...but I didn't exactly know where he lived..all I knew is that it was somewhere near Pontiac...I called him and he sort of explained the route to his house...needless to say, I couldn't find it and he told me to stay where I am and wait for him. I pulled over into the next possible garage/parking spot/ place to wait.....so there I was somewhere in Detroit in a beat up 96 Caprice Classic with a gigantic dent in the right rear door (that carved a ridge into the tire) at a Mercedes dealership with Thomas (an African American), Jose (a Puerto Rican) waiting for Fadi (a Syrian)...needless to say, the police came in less than a Jiffy...they asked us what we were doing..and I told him that we're coming from Kentucky and that we're on spring break (with Michigan tags)...and that we're meeting up with an old buddy of mine. To say the least, the nice officers were rather "surprised"..especially when they saw the car full of garbage bags....but they were friendly....they even checked our prostates to make sure that we were alright. Needless to say, there was nothing wrong with our prostates nor were there any dirty laundry in the gargabe bags....all in all it was a fun trip. |

As it's organised by dis-organised Indians (no reference to Commonwealth Games), one would have be at least a bit careful going through the Sahara and questionable parts of Africa.

Alright folks...who'd like to drive to Gambia....for reals now. I know some of you were playing..and weren't really considering the option..but why not ditch the nagging wife, forget about car payments, bad weather and kebabs for a moment and come on down the Gambia with me.

You can be in Rabat in 48 hours - Western Sahara 24 hours later.
And then the fun starts!!
We drove down and back to the Sahara 18mths ago - and have just sold the car on the forum.
If you want to sell the car - oldest Merc petrol engined car you can justify to buy will be best - anything you'll struggle to sell. Ideally you'll want it in top mechanical condition - which will make selling it a costly affair.
Make sure you get your passport stamped that the car has left Morocco when you leave - if you don't and you ever go back you'll be hit for tax.
Additionally if you buy a Swiss car - and insure it here - your insurance will cover you all the way down through Morocco - with ETI Europe doing the same!! www.hardmeier.net/Morocco |

What will you be driving? I'll be having a couple of weeks of around Spring. Which is all the time I'd need to educate you on the propper behaviour towards granny's. ;-p
