| | Re: Drive to Gambia | Quote: | | | | | Great, somebody with experience...so are you coming? | | | | | Would be nice, I've been a couple of times and even had relatives of a Gambian friend visit in Inverness.
But seriously, costs of driving an old Mecedes down there plus all the paperwork/baksheesh (I looked, plenty cheap for export on Ricado) and flying back would not be funded by it's sale.
So the purpose is for the trip........... ?

It was our plan originally - until we worked out that there was more than enough to see in 4-5 weeks in Morocco - and without the ballache of import/export hassles at the flight back.
The Moroccan border in Ceuta is quite "special".
Doing for a giggle isn't worth it - it is 2200km from Zurich to Algercicas (the Spanish port I might have mis-spelled) - and you have to be focussed to get down there quickly. The Moroccan motorways are great - just don't speed.
We clocked up almost 9000km in 5 weeks - and were only able to do that because we had a car that was well prepared - freshly serviced, new tyres, new front suspension components, sump guard. You try the journey in a 500chf - for export - bargain basement Merc - you won't get very far.
We did Madrid to Chur in a day on the way back - 1800km in 16hrs.
Do it for a reason - and not to escape boredom

Length of journey: approximately 3 weeks. | | | | | I think the main question is if you can survive 3 weeks and 2xxx kilometers stuck in a car with people you don't know too well (and vice versa). Could be carnage.

Then you have the 2xxxkms across Morocco - and then the xxxx to Gambia. You'd want to know someone very well - and then also trust their driving!!

When would you be planning the trip for? Would you accept a non-driver who has other talents?
