Indeed. And I would be interested to hear what your criteria are...
...alright, I need one mechanic, one translator/hostage negotiator (Wolli preferably) and 10 hot babes in case the apocalypse will take place and we would get stuck and the survival of humanity solely would rest on my shoulder.

So, here are the official criterias:
-car fixing skills
-Wolli
-hot babes

Terry, you already didn't make the cut by portraying bad taste in cars. Sorry.

Pah, any man who doesn't respect a Jensen Interceptor FF Mk II does not deserve my awesome company all the way to Gambia.

So you can drop me off in Senegal.

Keep your US muscle cars, my Jensen has a 7.2 litre engine.

(We're not doing this on any budget, are we?)

hmm, 7.2 liters..alright, I guess it's alright. (I doesn't look like it would have such a big engine though.)
..and no, we're not doing this on a budget...but we are not riding down there with one of those newer metrosexual Bimmers, Audi or VW....we don't belong to the gel hair crowd.

Oh yeah. 7.2 litre engine, 73 litre fuel tank, and a 3 speed gearbox. Not only a phenomenal looking vehicle, but also the perfect tool for a trans-continental drive across African desert

Last time I checked, Jensen actually use US muscle car engines... right? I like it (and I cannot say that about too many British cars...).

But really cool could only be a 959 Dakar.

I've taken notice of....however, I do plan on at least visiting the US again...so I'm not quite sure how an Iranian passport stamp will affect judgement of the US Immigration authority. I love Cuba and all, but I'm not too fond of orange jumpsuits.
Not an issue dude, plenty of American-Iranians do the journey every year.

Alright Castro, I'm game...but if I end up on tv with an orange jumpsuit, you're gonna have to explain this to mom.

OK people, we established that we also consider Iran as a viable option instead of Gambia. However, if we drive all the way to Iran (and are being put on a terrorist list)...we might as well go to Iraq for a day or so, just for bragging rights.

Re: Drive to Gambia

Having been to that part of the world, I wouldn't personally recommend a road trip in an unreliable vehicle, there tends to be a lack of resources if you vehicle breaksdown in the middle of nowhere and there isn't much traffic on the road.

Now Iran, they've got everything there...including a helpful Stasi-style police network, and nuclear weapons capabilities. What could possibly go wrong there?

On a more serious note, I'd love to drive through the Basque countryside into Portugal and explore the country in a 4x4, drinking great Portugese wines and eating their scrumptious food (Nandos?). If anyone is serious about that I'm up for it. Plus we wouldn't have the visa/bribery/possibility-of-spontaneous-civil-war issues that are omnipresent in Africa

Re: Drive to Gambia

An Iranian friend of mine (also living in CH) went home during the chrismas break. He told me they were driving through Teheran when they got stuck in a mob with the protesters on one side of the car and the riot police on the other side...

Re: Drive to Gambia

i was thinking of going the other way personally...
inspired by the long way round i'd love to ride/drive across mongolia and russia etc.

good luck with your trip - i think i'll plan one to coincide with my (almost inevitable) mid-life crisis (actually think i've been going through one for the last few years - starting early )
