Norway travel

Does anyone have experience taking ferries in diffrent places in Norway as an alternative to the expensive cruises in that country. What are must-see fjords, in your opinion? I've researched on the Internet, but would be interested in hearing ybout someone's personal experience in taking ferries in Norway. Thanks

Re: Norway travel

Yes i did this with my friends last year and it was an amazing experience.

we went to this small city (very small) right in the middle of the fjords balestrand was the name and i highly recommend it.

its very quiet place though for 1 day or two to totally escape and then you go to the glaciers from there with the bus like 25 minutes.

the ferries are going up and down the fjords all the time but sometimes expensive.. anyway Norway it is very expensive... more than Switzerland.

In Balestrand there is a nice hotel reasonable prices right on the fjord and amazing to watch the sunset... i can give you the details... its owned by american family.

Re: Norway travel

Last summer I cycled from Kristiansand to Oslo. Ferries were never a problem except between Risor to Oysang. They only run from Monday to Friday, and of course, we only found this out after missing the last ferry on Friday.

Oh, yes

In my opinion, the Lofotes is the most beautiful place on earth, at least from the places I have seen so far. Ferries from/to anywhere should not be a problem, if you can adjust to the very very slow pace of life so far up in the north

You can also go for some sort of mini-cruises there, I think, the former post-boat service "Hurtigruta" offer this type of thing. I was on one of their boats once just for a one day trip to the Trollfjord.

My experience dates many moons back, though; things could have changed.

Have fun
