O.K.
Not beach but just home (returend yesterday) from Bali.
Stayed at the Kamandalu resort, outside Ubud. Wonderful, calm, relaxing and not as warm as the beach resorts in the south (maybe a ++ when pregnant). Let me know if you want to know "things to do".

Ubud is a bit more relaxed too, and away from Kuta and Sanur.

I see people returning from Bali every day in my job and they are verrrrry happy traevllers! Enjoy!

Re: Where to go in Bali

Bali is wonderful! We are hoping to go soon as well. If you want a more relaxing beach pace than the Kuta/Legian area, try Nusa Dua. It is a bit more up-market and more family oriented. Ubud is beautiful with relaxing day spas in the forest. Most of the villas you can rent have swimming pools and are catered.
My advice is spend some time in Ubud and some time on the coast then you get a taste of both areas.
Have fun!

I don't know if you noticed this sticky at the bottom of your thread. Some useful feedback:

Lombok (next door to Bali):

When strolling around Ubud, be sure to sample the delicious suckling pig served on a big leaf with rice and condiments under a big ancient tree.

Re: Where to go in Bali

My favourite place are the Gilli Islands off the coast of Lombok. But I would prefer to stay on Bali with a pregnant wife as you can get very quickly out of reach of any doctor there...

A friend of mine went to a nice resort in Tulamben and he loved it for being "the opposite of Kuta". I like Ubud, but would not spend my entire vacation there.

Re: Where to go in Bali

Ubud is gorgeous. It isnt as commercial as Kuta, or even Nusa Dua for the matter.

Nusa Dua is full of big hotel name resorts - the Westin is one of them. I stayed there once and it was a self sufficient resort with its own private beach. There wasnt a need to venture out into town unless you wanted to explore what it has to offer.

Personally, for a couple expecting a baby, Ubud is great. There are art shops, rice valley tours etc which are essentially the heart of Balinese culture. Check out this resort, the Alila, it is modern, relaxing and quiet. You will feel totally cut off from the world as there are no clocks or tellys in that hotel Highly recommended!

Alternatively, if you want to pamper her, head out to Jimbaran Bay and check out Four Seasons Jimbaran. Prices are eye watering, and it has a cheaper version down in Sayan which is just as nice. But Jimbaran is where all the up market resorts are, besides the Four Seasons, the Ritz is also here. You dont pay for rooms here, but your own private villas with discreet, quiet and great butler service.

Its also great for fresh and cheap seafood.

I knew that somebody would come up with it. But you failed to mention the infinity pool!

I left it to the website would do it better justice.

Yes people, the pool has been voted by Conde Nest as one of the best infinity pools in the world a couple of years back. Plunges into the Ayung valley below...bliss.
