Back 'atcha!

I miss St. Viateur or Fairmount bagels, Schwartz' Smoke Meat, and Montreal restaurants in general, especially 'ethnic' ones, which are usually inexpensive, authentic, and delicious in my native city.

I miss the laid back live and let live attitude of many Canadians, though the flip side is many things don't work as smoothly and harmoniously as they do here. I appreciate both for what they are.

I miss the gorgeous and confident women from all over the world who have become Canadians, and the incredible mix of cultures and the mostly harmonious way they co-exist, and how immigrants are mostly welcomed and how their culture become part of ours as much as the other way around. I also miss the variety of lifestyles, much less homogeneous than here.

Fall (Autumn to you English, eh?) in Canada is famously unlike anywhere else in the world, I really miss hiking in the woods over the few weekends when everything is changing and the colours are rioutous and the maple leaves cover the ground to ankle height.

I don't miss how corrupt Québec is, and the naive and childish politics that seem to be the norm, at federal level as well, and I don't miss the cold, long winters of Eastern Canada, which I used to be proud of being able to handle but can easily live without, now.

Awww, this is making me homesick. Holidays are the hardest.

What would you be eating today if you were home with family celebrating?

Friendly people.

Not that there aren't nice people here, it's just that it's so much harder to find them and to get to know them.
