Should marijuana be legalized, or is this the answer......

I am not, and never have been, a user/dealer of controlled substances, but I find this video of a raid in the US on a suspected pot user/dealer (by the authority's account) very disturbing....

What are your thoughts?

Re: Should marijuana be legalized, or is this the answer......

I think the "effort" used by the police is way too large for a substance which I would classify as very minor on the "drug scale".

Yes, I have friends who smoke regularly, and some of them are not very succesful in their lives (job, relationship, money, etc wise), but none of them have ever committed a crime to get their next "dose".

On the other hand, those few instances where I've known people that do crack, heroine etc, have committed crimes such as theft, and those drugs seem to be the ones which cause violent and criminal behaviour within the population.

Smoking some weed... ehhh, IMO it's no a big deal. But as with everything, don't overdo it.

US law used to be always crazy.
But there is another case in singapoore or malaysia or both where people get hung for the possession of a few gramm grass.

I can not see any reason why booze is legal and for smoking pot you end up in prison.

Hemp is a *power plant*. It should be used only by shamans or under medical control.

Now Hemp fibres are very useful, you can make a lot of stuff this it.
It was used to make papers, clothings, and is still use in buildings, for isolation. Oil is also good.

I think the term youre looking for is: "Marajuana is a mind altering substance". The shaman comment I shall ignore in the interests of being as inoffensive as possible.

I have to agree with you.

Back on topic: I think the sooner drugs are legalized and/or regulated the crazy and useless war against trafficking might stop.

You can go offensive if you want, it will get back to you soon or later

everything you smoke or drink can be a mind altering substance too.

Re: Should marijuana be legalized, or is this the answer......

I can argue both sides of the legalizing marijuana argument. For disciplined people who can use dope responsibility, I can't see the fuss. However, when I look around at the number of teenagers who over indulge, then I can see a real problem brewing with legalizing the substance as it will attract casual users to the fray. We have someone in our family who has dropped out of college, and can't hold down a job and is completely addicted to marijuana to get himself through each and every day. It's a pitiful situation. I know that you can say that alcohol and smoking tobacco can also lead to addiction problems, but do we really need to legalize another hazard? Allow people with nervous system disorders such as lupus or MS to access marijuana for medical relief just as any controlled substance should be.

On a personal note, I wouldn't touch the stuff. I get my highs from sport and intend to keep it that way.

I would have though that the original post was about Police brutality and heavy handed-ness ? The debate about legal or not legal is moot here perhaps.

They shot his dog ffs !!!

True, but that's the US police for you. Shoot first, then see what results. There's nothing to condone such behavior. Maybe the dog's description matched a pooch that had jumped bail and was therefore a legitimate target?

from the video description: This video shows a search warrant served by the Columbia Mo. police department. The cops bust in this guys house in the middle of the night and shoot his two dogs (one a pit bull that was caged in the kitchen and the other a Corgi).

One from the comments: "Yeah... we found a few baggies of drugs on the dog. Also, it had a gun. And it made a move. WE HAD TO KILL IT. NO OTHER CHOICE!!!"

What are your thoughts?
What would your suggestion be on how to do or organise a raid like that?
Ring the doorbell and ask to be let in? ...

No. Stop at the doorstep. Realise you're a pig and not only that but an American pig. Realise this makes you the lowest form of humanity and that the crime you are about to do by entering the place is far worse than growing marijuana. Remove pistol and train on self. Pull trigger.

Of course not.

Modus...

1) Budget for an bored armed tactical response unit to scare the f*uck out of small children in the middle of the night, thus ensuring the child gains a healthy balanced view on the role of the Police.

2) Shoot a dog for target practice because I haven't killed anything else this week.

3) Shoot the other dog out of frustration because my supplied intelligence did not lead me to the Columbian Cartels and merely turned up a small time low grade dealer who sold me a short bag last week and who's whores short changed my colleague weekend.

4) Next week, arrest a primary school kid at gunpoint, cuff him and explain to him the dangers of cycling on the cracks in the pavement. That'll teach the perp a lesson or two.

Reality is cruel & wicked isn't it and thanks to Youtube we can all watch what is really going on out there and what's so thrilling about it, get into action to prevent further such bad things happening in the world.

... as always, mind you, I am being utterly sarcastic!!

I agree 100%. Why should the punishment be so drastic in comparison to the crime? And really, what is the crime? Marijuana has its pitfalls like many things but if people aren't told about the real dangers and just told old wives' tales that it's a gateway drug and burns brain cells they'll never believe a word you say.

Marijuana is illegal pretty much everywhere. Even in Holland it is only "tolerated". People use the argument that teens get a hold of it and go crazy and that's why it should be illegal. Balls! In the US it has been illegal for a long long time and how many teens smoke it there? A lot! In other words, marijuana prohibition does not work.

Re: Should marijuana be legalized, or is this the answer......

The primary danger with marijuana is that it's "loserish" - in other words it'll slow you or stop you from accomplishing the things in life you want to accomplish. It may have more dangers than that when smoking in very large quantities, and you may smoke more and more because you'll have less and less to actually do. Still, I have no idea why any of this is the business of the government.

Because, as a mind altering drug, it leads to subversiveness and to question authority. Governments hate free thinkers :-)
