AVS/AHV help needed

I am focused TODAY to read and find out what is this charge AVS?. I have been for a year in Swiss for a integration with my husband. I gave up on my successful career, finish my MBA Management abroad and moved here. My parents were worried for my decision. From a normal life, I am choosing an unpredictable one for a sake of my child who is an American citizen to reunite with her father. In the period of uncertainty I lost suddenly my father who was my protector, mentor and a friend. Furthermore, I lost two potential fundings for my PhD Program. In the interim, I was forced to pay retroactively insurance for the period I was a student at the MBA Management Program abroad where I was insured. In addition, I have just received a first letter that I own to AVS and I should go to settle this down…

I am confused because I have a feeling that this system is ripping of everyone who is not familiar with their rules. I did learn all insurance related laws, and I am determine if I have to become a lawyer to fight for my right on the top of the overall education I will do it. I have not generated income since I have arrived. I was not pleased to pay retroactively for the health insurance for the services I was not able to receive because I did not reside for the particular period. However, in order to be insured both, I and my child continuously and after reviewing the mandatory insurance law stipulations, I did settle this down. I have realized that I was supposed to pay for the insurance since the permesso was issued in 2008, rather than when I came here in 2009.

Next, I am wondering what is this AVS, what are the related laws, and who are entitled to pay? I am even ready to give up on this system and leave, beside the fact it has been invested 6 months in intensive language learning and writing proposals for funding the other 6 months. I am against paying for something that is not justifiable, because I do not want to deduct my child budget. In addition, I do NOT want to create deficit in my life, because it is opportunity cost involved. For the year spent here, I would of earn substantial funds abroad that would of go toward the savings for the future of my child.

Re: Need KIND ADVICE ref AVS

AVS or AHV is a part of the pension scheme in switzerland, compulsory for everybody working in switzerland. Please find further information including the references to the laws (german, french and italian). You find a chapter about health insurance too.

Actually AHV is compulsory for many people who are not employed as well, but the calculation is different.....

Re: Need KIND ADVICE ref AVS

Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I did actually understand that I need to pay for the eldery people here and their survivors and it is a first pillar of their pension system, kind of "pay-as-u-go". next ? is how they come up for this debit amount that I do need to credit them, and why for the year during which one I did not reside in Switzerland.

Tomorrow, I will face them with my limited knowledge of their official language. Finally, I may go extra mile and find channel to get a hold of the billateral agreement signed btw two countries reference the overall pension and social security scheme...Who should pay what? and who is in charge of what?e.g tax billateral treaties.
