Tourist visa for India (UK citizen)

My wife and I are off on holiday to india in September and need a visa. We're both UK citizens and B-permit in CH (not sure if that is relevant)

We both travel a lot with work and as far as I can tell, the Indian authorities in the UK need to see our passports, and I am loth to send a passport internationally and not have it for a while.

How can we get our visas in Switzerland (preferably Zurich though I can imagine we may have to go through Bern).

Hope you can help

thanks

Re: Tourist visa for India (UK citizen)

This is the link for the Indian Embassy in Switzerland - they seem to have outsourced the visa services and the application for the visa is on the site. In Geneva, my husband gets his visa in three days.

Generally you apply for visas from your country of residence not origination. You'll need to contact the embassy in Bern.

Thanks all. Very useful and quick responses! I know next to nothing about visas.

Would 'thank' properly but don't seem to be able to at the moment. Strange.

Re: Tourist visa for India (UK citizen)

Just to add to the visa thread, that I have just received a visa through Berne. Mailed my UK passport off on a Monday and received it back the following Wednesday. So 8 business days. Just thought it would be a useful data point for those who, like me, can't be without their passport for too long.

phone them and ask..... you will get the real current answers rather than on a random internet forum.

Re: Tourist visa for India (UK citizen)

I just got my visa as a UK citizen and there IS an express service but only for Swiss citizens. I think you should apply asap as it will be very tight. They say 5 working days, so if you apply tomorrow it will arrive next Thursday, the day before she travels.

So stop posting about it and get going
