Beaches near to Switzerland

Hi,

Are there any good beaches accessible close to north western Switzerland?. We would like to get away for a few days. Maybe somewhere in Germany as its not too far away?.

Thanks.

Hi,

Just found this on the www.myswitzerland.com website:

http://www.zkgl.ch/

Does anyone know about this?.

I am not sure how much it costs but you can get away for a short trip along the Rhine, just passed Schaffhausen. The river is nice.

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

Before anyone else comes up with bright answers - if you mean beach as in 'sea / beach' then I suggest you take a look at this map of Europe. You'll have to make the scale small enough that you see the nearest coast-line in all directions. I'd say the coast of Italy is nearest at a rough guess.

PS - Sorry, that obviously that wasn't what you meant. To me a beach always has sea behind it.

There are a couple of nice sandy bits on the east 'coast' of the Neuenburgersee - Yvonand for one.

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

The area around Genova in Italy would appear to be the closest place for a real beach. Although it might be a good idea to look outside of Genova itself as it appears to be a port town judging by the satellite photos.

I personally thought Genoa was a dump like you said. There are some
nice beaches outside of Genoa though.

Yup, driving down the coast of Liguria there are beaches everywhere, though they're mostly rocky apart from a few bits. For river and lake beaches, I see them everywhere I go - I'm not sure if there is a best or worst. I think the "get-away" most common among Swiss is to go to a natural spa, rather than by a lake (which is more of a day thing, because they're everywhere). Check out Bad Ragaz etc.

Cote d'Azur is 8 hours from Basel, Liguria is 6.5 at most. And Liguria has the Cinque Terre...ahem

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

Well,

I dont want to drive too far, we get back from Denmark on Monday night. So just a few days nearby would do well.

The camping sites look a lot of fun though!.

Maybe I will try Bodensee(Lake Constance).

Thanks.

Bodensee is nice.. I've been there a couple of times. can't tell you anything about lakes/beaches though as I would not even dream swimming in cold water.

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

we were just thinking the same thing- trying to find a nice salty water sea close by, quiet, beautiful but close enough to go for only two or three days.
cote d'azur is a bit too crowded, although it is pretty- looking for something more wild and secluded and we were thinking about italy...

any ideas?

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

Nice, beautiful secluded beach? Try here:

Whitehaven Beach, Australia

Nestled on Australia’s dreamy Whitsunday Island (the largest of the Whitsunday chain), Whitehaven Beach offers four miles of silky soft, milky white sand courtesy of pure silica grains. A lush acacia forest backdrop keeps things as cool as the turquoise waters. Although this is one of Australia’s most photographed beaches, it’s also one of its less trampled thanks to strict visitation limits enforced by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (you must register with a tour operator to access the area.) A number of tour operators offer daytrips, overnight stays or scenic flights to Whitehaven Beach from the islands, Shute Harbour or Airlie Beach. A catamaran trip from Shute Harbour is $100 per person.

Only a day-(& night-)trip ... to get there ...

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

Corsica is the best, but Corsican prices make Switzerland look like a bargain!

Still, plan to go there again next year.

Five hour ferry from Genova.

Yes both Romanshorn & Arbon are good at Bodensee, very pretty to walk around. Also good to watch the fireworks for 1st August festivities.
They both have large swimming pools.

Re: Beaches near to Switzerland

There are a couple of lake beaches at constance and in the Black Forest that are worth the trip, otherwise I would reccomend a weekend flight to Ibiza or similar...
