As you live in Zurich, this airport http://www.fgzo.ch/
called "Speck" near Fehraltorf is closer, and it's a cool grass runway with a nice restaurant on site.

Has he got enough socks! You can never have enough in my book.
And slippers. Preferably ones that have been worn in. But whatever you do...DON'T throw away his old slippers! Chances are that although you think they are old and decrepit, he's only just worn them in.

Does he have a car Sat Nav? In which case a top of the range TomTom is a very good gadget.

The only sock solution is to only ever buy one kind of sock, UNLESS it is distinctly distinguishable from the others, for example 'these are my snowboarding socks, i know i can't wear them to work because they are grey, knee length and thick wool' - otherwise all socks should be the same, same make, brand, size, color - that way they never need to be paired.
Throw all the old ones out, buy 20 pairs of black socks and if you lose one it's not an issue. Just grab 2 socks.

If you want to get him a tandem skydive in Interlaken, please let me know as you can have the one I got for my last birthday. I assume my fiancée asked for present ideas in a forum similar to this as she wouldn't have come up with such a ridiculous gift idea on her own :-)
Don't get him socks. I beg you. Don't get him socks. If i was 29 I couldnt imagine a worse present than socks, or indeed anything else that doesn't require a power source.

Get him a gun rack. Even if he doesnt own one gun, let alone enough guns to necessitate a gun rack....

But there's two problems here...
one is that it's not often men who buy the socks ...it's the women do. And it's a hard enough thing getting them to buy two things that look the same. So even the fact that socks coming in pairs is pushing it a bit...
And if you were running a business how far do you think you'd get with pushing the idea that "if we make our socks like this, then our customers won't have to buy so many from us!"
It's a little known fact that it's one company that makes all the socks, linen baskets and washing machines in the world. And both the linen baskets and washing machines have secret time compartments in them, invisible to the human eye, that spirit away socks into dimensions that we mere mortals know nothing of.
