Recommended Podcasts...?

We already have the very popular YouTube of the day but I haven't found any recommendations for good Podcasts so I thought I'd post a couple of my favourites. Why not share yours....

Although a Brit I'm a big fan of Garrison Keillors tales from Lake Wobegon, the ficticious but charming town in Mist County Minessota. Back in March he started a Podcast of his live monologues on a Prarie Home Companion. I just love the characters - you should also read the book and short stories.

or on iTunes

For "real" music fans take a look at Acoustic Long Island, a weekly show from a small club on Long Island NY playing just Acoustic music, folk, blues etc

Re: News from Lake Wobegon, and other good Podcasts

I used to be completed addicted to podcasts when i had that crazy 1h30 (each way) commute...

By then, i used to listen to
_ Insomnia Radio, before it became a franchise. It is still very good...
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/insomniaradio

_ Insomnia Radio Doubleshoots, which now seem to be dead
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/doubleshots

_ Insomnia Radio UK was also a very good idea
feed://feeds.feedburner.com/iruk

_Bitjobs for the Masses - indie music from all over presented by a very funny guy:
feed://www.btpodshow.com/feeds/bfm.xml

_Dudley podcast, an XFM Dublin podcast (one of my favourite radios)
feed://www.xfmdublin.com/blog/?feed=podcast

_ The Speakeasy with Dorian, a podcast from WFMU Radio. It is an interview show. Every couple of weeks this convervets into Duck Hunting With Dick, a very caustic american political "review"

Bump.... maybe 'cos I posted this on a Friday night it was not noticed. Here's another of my favourites, John Cleese having a word about not caring less.... i.e. one of the differences between English and American English - there's about 23 in all on iTunes but this is about the funniest

Re: News from Lake Wobegon, and other good Podcasts

I was into video podcasts a few months ago, but I only watch them sporadically now:

Ask A Ninja
Olde English Sketch Comedy
Ministry of Unknown Science
Vintage ToonCast

And a German, satirical one, sometimes hitting the nail right on the head:
extra3 (extra dry) Podcast

Podcasts

Hi all,

I am interested in downloading some podcasts as I have never done this before.

Where is the best place to get (free) podcasts from? Is there a central place to go? How can I get things like Ricky Gervais free?

etc....

If anyone has any general insight or tips I would be grateful.

Cheers,

Hugh

Mini-mars bars make ideal "normal" sized mars bars for midgets.

Re: Podcasts

To do it properly you'll need some software - google for free podcast software. Also iTunes will do this too.

The you subscribe to various padcast and they are automatically downloaded when available and when you are online. Then these can be played on your pc or if you have an ipod or other mp3 player transferred to that. iTunes and an ipod do this all rather seamlessly as your iPod is being recharged while connected to you computer...

Re: Podcasts

www.itunes.com

(or PodCatcher or any of the other podcast Web sites)

No need to own an iPod to listen to podcasts, but it helps me make my bus/tram ZVV commute more bearable.

Re: Podcasts

Guys,

I know how it all works due to having been alive for the past few years, what I am specifically asking is this:

"Where do you get podcasts that you would normally have to pay for, for free eg. Ricky Gervais"

Re: Podcasts

More seriously, my favourite podcast has to be 'Fighting Talk' off BBC Five Live:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/...tion/fivelive/

Give it a bash, it is hilarious. I also like the Guardian football podcasts by James Richardson (from football Italia fame):
http://www.guardian.co.uk/podcasts

Both can be subscribed to on i-Tunes - well worth a bash as they are free.

Last edited by StirB; 29.11.2007 at 16:42. Reason: He has Gervais already!

The seventh free video podcast is now online; Get the podcast via XML or through iTunes

You can get all 12 episodes of the original podcasts in one gasp at either audible.com or iTunes
I found this by googling "ricky gervais podcast"
