Goodbye

Won't be checking back

All that talk about the Swiss mentality and blah blah is a bit frustrating for me. If I try to help and explain why things are the way they are here, some of you really don't want to hear it (even attack me for beeing racist, whatever).

I am glad that you people are in Switzerland and I hope that you will stay here for many years.

(Don't bother answering 'cause I'm really not checking back)

Sorry you feel that way Thomas, as a non swiss living here I also get annoyed at the generalisation comments about the swiss being this that and the other so I can imagine being swiss yourself it must be frustrating. Maybe stick around and prove those people wrong? challenge their views?

If not then so long

Just in case you get notified via email of this post and read it
I'm sorry you have been offended.. I think at some point each one of us get insulted over our culture. Of course I'm not condoning it, it actually pretty much sucks
Anyway, we are all entitled to be happy in our lives and essentially our happiness is based on our decisions. So, having said that, take care of yourself and may you have a happy one

And for those of us with Swiss partners (and many nice Swiss customers) it is also very annoying. Every time I hear that all Swiss are rude I recall my latest trip to the UK when half the people were rude to me and try to recall the last time a Swiss person was rude to me. I've given up replying to those threads anymore.

Re: Goodbye

I'm an Auslander, and also get very annoyed at this attitude of ALL swiss people are cold, rude etc. I'm wondering why anyone would want to stay in a country if you hate the inhabitants so much Hopefully you'll read this and realise we are not all a...h...s.

Goodbye

Sorry you feel this way. It is a shame that a few strident voices make such an impression, but truth be told, people who complain so loudly are going to complain wherever they are.

I like it here, most of the annoyances have more to do with being human and very little to do with being Swiss.

I feel very fortunate to be in Switzerland.

Re: Goodbye

My Swiss hubby is the sweetest person I have ever known in my entire life...not just to me but he is super nice to everyone that he comes in contact with. I <3 the Swiss, at least the ones I've met

People need to realize that there are going to be rude people in any culture, any place and that just because one person was rude to them, that one person does not speak for the rest of their fellow countrymen.

Seems the bulk of EFers are from up North, but we've just arrived in Vaud and we're both simply stunned: people are POLITE and NICE and HELPFUL.

We just spent the last few years in the Southeastern U.S. and have found service staff, drivers and passersby on the sidewalks in Lausanne to be nicer than at home. We've also had positive experiences with every government agency we've encountered thus far. Again... we're shocked... pleasantly so.

Re: Goodbye

Hi Thomas,

I understand how you feel, this attitude really annoys me too!

I congratulate your diplomacy, you didn't tell those AHoles to get the funk out of your country if they don't like it so much! Or say that all English speakers in CH are arrogant jerks, which you could have (making sweeping generalisations, like they do), but you didn't I think a lot of people could and should learn from you.

Take care

Re: Goodbye

I have only good things to say about the Swiss. They have welcomed me to their country and I have never met a bad Swiss person. I also do not understand the vitriol that is sometimes spilled onto this forum. The best thing to do is provide a counter argument against this attitude.

I think a lot of it is from frustration adjusting to a new culture, and some here put the blame on the whole Swiss nation for their troubles when they have a bad experience with a particular individual or place. English forum becomes a venting location for peoples anger, depression etc.

I think it is fine to vent frustration but racist comments should be moderated more heavily.

I live in Bern, and came 3 years ago via the so-called Southern Part of Heaven (Chapel Hill, NC). And we've had the same experience.. from when we arrived and picked up our dog at Zurich airport and didn't have the right paperwork, to all sorts of experiences every day. People have been incredibly helpful, kind and much to my great surprise for all the "rules" incredibly laid back. Maybe there's a lot less uncertainty here because of the rules. Who knows?
