diamond time ? ( ladies advice requested )

Ok ladies… I ‘d like your advice on this one… is it true what they say that size matters?

My 10 year wedding anniversary is coming up and I’m looking at buying mrs. G a diamond solitaire pendant… a setting similar to her original engagement ring.

Now the issue is… 11 years ago when I bought her the engagement ring money was a bit tighter and I couldn’t afford the ring, the size stone I felt she should have had…. So…. For this pendant that I am talking about buying…

Should I buy a stone the same size as the engagement ring, or bigger?... If I do buy bigger is that going to “show up” the engagement ring ? ( what problems eh? )

thanks for your advice and opinions.

(p.s. - don’t even talk about upgrading the engagement ring, I’ve mentioned it once or twice over the years and she will not hear of it )

Re: diamond time ? ( ladies advice requested )

What a dilemma!!

I think that your (lucky) wife will be more than delighted to receive a diamond pendant - whatever the size of the diamond. An equally sized diamond would be beautiful but hey, if you should decide to get a huge one I can guarantee that she will not complain!!

But I also think that you are overlooking one very important issue - and that is the love, care and thoughtfulness that you have put into choosing the very best and most precious anniversary gift for your wife. That, to me, is worth more than any number of diamonds.

Re: diamond time ? ( ladies advice requested )

For me, it is the fact that my husband has taken the time to think about something that I would like and has then chosen it all by himself.

If truth be known - size isn't it important, its the small everyday things that make us happy.

I think, you can go for the same size and add the earings as well with the necklace. Or you can go a bit bigger but I really think you should get the earings as well!

I think thats a fair point Nil. What good is a pendant without the earring? Go smaller and get all both

Not sure if I'm allowed to comment on this thread as I am a man...

I think you're just talking for yourself now !! *L*...

don't ask me why but mrs. G doesn't have and refuses to get pierced ears... so... have you ever tried to find diamond-cclip-on-earrings?

don't even start looking.. trust me on this one.

Re: diamond time ? ( ladies advice requested )

Don't worry about 'showing up' the ring - a pendant is worn in a very different location and hence size comparisons will not be made. Just make sure the cut and colour match the engagement ring. Also make sure you get a lovely necklace to hang it on, it'd be a pity to spoil a lovely diamond pendant by hanging it on a necklace which doesn't suit it.

This is the first time I hear about a woman not having her ear pierce!

In that case, a bracelet?

I think your wife will be very happy with the necklace and what ever the size, I believe the gesture is saying much more then the object itself!

Match the pendant to the breast size.... otherwise one could make the other look small...

Re: diamond time ? ( ladies advice requested )

The size of the diamond really depends on Mrs G. With a smallish piece, one can wear it every day. My engagement ring is very modest - half karat or so set in some smaller diamonds and anything larger would look silly on my stubby hand. For a necklace, I might go a little bigger, but it depends on the setting... I'd personally like something I could wear all the time - with jeans as well as with a dress. But Mrs G may be different.

But it's an incredibly sweet thing for you to do, and really it is the thought that counts.

I'd have to say that clip on earrings hurt.

I realize that I'm probably giving you different advice from the others... but something small, elegant and nicely set would appeal to me more than something large.
