Layover in Doha, Qatar

I'm scheduled for a 9 hour layover at Doha airport in Qatar and I was wondering if anybody had been to this airport before? I've heard that it's a real piece of crap, due to be replaced next year by the a new airport. Is there anything to do in the terminal or should I apply for an exit visa and check out the city?

If it's the same airport as just before the Asian games (2006?) - I'd get the exit visa.

I was there last year twice and its very, very crowded. I actually had to go sit in the partition for women because there was no space elsewhere but its not as bad as it used to be. A good book, music and a warm sweater (the AC was on full) should do you well for the 9 hours. A snack is also not a bad idea even though they'll probably give you a coupon for the cafeteria.

Re: Layover in Doha, Qatar

The Swiss miss n I are heading back to Oz for a holiday and we Just got into Doha a couple of hours ago.

There is a lounge here called 'Oryx Lounge'. Really great value.

For 40 chf you get a variety of snacks and sandwiches, coffee, cold drinks including beer and wine !!!

It's great, we have a five hour stopover and after a feed of tabouli, hummus, red wine and a shower I feel a million bucks. Now just got to get through the 14 hour connecting flight and we can start the holidays....
